Sissu Tour Package: Your Gateway to the Hidden Wonderland of Lahaul Travel through the famous Atal Tunnel and forget about the world for a while. Welcome to Sissu, a tiny Himalayan village where snow covered peaks touch the sky, waterfalls freeze mid air in winter, and the peaceful silence of Lahaul Valley makes every worry disappear. If you have been looking for a mountain escape that feels real and untouched, a Sissu tour package is exactly what you need. Sissu, also known as Khwaling, sits at about 3,200 metres above sea level in the Lahaul Valley of Himachal Pradesh. It rests on the banks of the Chandra River, just 40 km from Manali and barely 6 km from the northern exit of the Atal Tunnel. What was once a remote village cut off for nearly half the year is now accessible all twelve months, and travellers from across India are falling in love with it. Our tailored Sissu tour packages are designed for daydreamers, road trippers, couples, families, and anyone in search of something truly special in the Himalayas. The Special Things About Sissu There are plenty of hill stations in Himachal Pradesh, but Sissu is different. It hasn't been taken over by tourist crowds or commercial noise. It still feels honest, raw, and wonderfully peaceful. The moment you exit the Atal Tunnel and step into Lahaul, the world changes. The lush pine forests of Manali give way to wide open valleys surrounded by stark, rugged mountains. The air feels crisper. The sky looks bigger. And there's a calm here that wraps around you like a warm shawl on a cold evening. Only about 40 minutes from Manali, Sissu is the pearl of Lahaul. In winter, the entire village turns into a white paradise with snow blanketing every rooftop, every tree, and every mountain trail. In summer, wildflower meadows come alive and the river cafes serving ginger tea with views of snow capped peaks will leave you breathless. The village has a population of just over 2,000 people, and life here moves at a beautifully slow pace. You'll find Buddhist prayer flags fluttering in the wind, ancient monasteries, warm locals who greet you with genuine smiles, and a sense of calm that no city can ever offer. Sissu also serves as a gateway to three of the most iconic destinations in the Himalayas: Ladakh, Lahaul, and Spiti Valley. So whether you are making Sissu your main destination or passing through on a longer journey, adding it to your itinerary makes every Sissu tour package that much more rewarding. Why Choose Travel Coffee for Your Sissu Tour Package? We are not just another online travel company sitting in some faraway city and selling you a random itinerary. We are locals. Our team works right here in Shimla, and we know these mountains like the back of our hand. We have driven these roads ourselves, camped beside these rivers, sipped chai at the same tiny roadside shops you'll visit, and experienced every season that Sissu has to offer. When you book a Sissu tour package with Travel Coffee, you get something that no big booking platform can match: personal care, real experience, and unmistakable Himachali warmth. We know what the weather feels like in real time, when the roads are at their smoothest, which hotels actually treat their guests well, and where the hidden gems are that most tourists completely miss. Every itinerary we craft is built on what actually works on the ground, not what looks good on a website. We handpick every stay for cleanliness, comfort, and location. We plan photo stops at spots most people drive right past. We include evening bonfires, snow activities when the season is right, and on ground support that means you always have someone just a phone call away. That's the Travel Coffee difference, and once you experience it, you'll never want to plan a trip any other way. Who Is a Sissu Trip For? The honest answer is almost everyone, but let us paint a clearer picture for you. Couples will fall in love with the snowy landscapes, quiet lakeside walks, and cozy camp stays far from any crowd. There's a romance to Sissu that doesn't need to try hard. It just happens naturally when you're surrounded by mountains and starlit skies. Families looking for a safe and memorable road trip will find Sissu perfect. The drive is smooth, the activities are easy enough for kids to enjoy, and the snow play keeps little ones entertained for hours. It's the kind of trip where everyone from grandparents to toddlers comes home with stories to tell. Riders and road trippers will love the journey just as much as the destination. The sharp turns, the dramatic landscape change through the Atal Tunnel, and the wide open roads of Lahaul Valley make this one of the most thrilling drives in all of Himachal Pradesh. Creators, vloggers, and photographers will find every corner of Sissu incredibly photogenic. Frozen waterfalls, misty lakes, golden autumn valleys, and skies full of stars with zero light pollution. The content possibilities here are endless. And if you are a solo traveller simply looking for peace, quiet, and some time alone with nature, Sissu will feel like it was made just for you. What's Included in Our Sissu Tour Packages? We believe in keeping things transparent and simple, so you know exactly what you are getting before you book. Every Sissu tour package from Travel Coffee includes check in to verified stays in Manali and Sissu, whether that's a comfortable hotel, a riverside camp, or a cozy homestay depending on the package you choose. All stays are on a sharing basis and have been personally vetted by our team for quality and comfort. Your package also covers private vehicle transfers throughout the trip, with options for SUV, bike, or tempo traveller depending on your group size and preference. Meals are included as per the itinerary, typically covering breakfast and dinner with wholesome North Indian and Himachali food that keeps you fuelled for the day ahead. On top of that, we take care of driver allowances, toll taxes, parking charges, on ground support, and real time weather advisory so you never have to worry about logistics. We also plan those little touches that make a big difference like scenic photo stops along the route, evening bonfires under the stars, and snow activities when the season allows. Things like adventure activities at Solang Valley, personal expenses, travel insurance, entry tickets, and any special vehicle requirements during heavy snowfall are not included, but we're always happy to help you arrange them at the best rates. Best Time to Visit Sissu One of the best things about planning a Sissu tour package today is that the village is accessible all year round thanks to the Atal Tunnel. But each season brings a completely different flavour to the experience, so the right time really depends on what you're looking for. If you visit between March and June, you'll catch Sissu at its most pleasant. The snow begins to melt, meadows start blooming with wildflowers, roads are smooth and fully open, and temperatures hover between a comfortable 15°C and 25°C. This is the ideal window for road trips, scenic walks, and family holidays. It's also the safest time for first time visitors who aren't used to extreme cold or high altitude conditions. September through November is equally magical. The monsoon fades, the air turns crisp, and the valleys are painted in shades of gold and amber as autumn takes over. This is when Sissu feels the most peaceful because the summer crowds have gone home but the winter snow hasn't arrived yet. If you love photography or simply want some quiet time in the mountains, this shoulder season is pure gold. For those who dream of snow, December to March is when Sissu transforms into a white wonderland. Temperatures drop well below zero, the entire village gets buried under thick snow, and the famous Sissu Waterfall freezes into a stunning wall of ice. Our winter packages are designed specifically for this experience, with warm stays, proper gear recommendations, and activities like sledding and snowman building that make the cold absolutely worth it. The monsoon months from July to September bring lush greenery and waterfalls at their most powerful, but roads can get tricky and occasional landslides may cause delays. If you don't mind a little unpredictability, the monsoon beauty of Lahaul is something very few travellers get to witness. How to Reach Sissu Getting to Sissu is easier than most people expect, and that's a big part of why it's become so popular so quickly. The most common route is from Delhi. You take an overnight Volvo bus to Manali, which takes roughly 13 to 15 hours. From Manali, Sissu is just about 40 km away through the Atal Tunnel, a smooth drive that takes about an hour to an hour and a half. Most of our packages include this bus journey as part of the transport, so you don't need to worry about booking it separately. If you're coming from Chandigarh, the road distance to Manali is around 310 km. You can take a bus or drive yourself through Bilaspur, Sundernagar, Mandi, and Kullu. Once you reach Manali, the Atal Tunnel takes you straight into Sissu. The nearest airport is Bhuntar, also known as Kullu Manali Airport, which is about 80 km from Sissu. From the airport, a taxi ride through Manali and the Atal Tunnel takes roughly two and a half hours. And yes, you can absolutely drive to Sissu in your own car. The roads through the Atal Tunnel are well maintained, and no permit is required when you enter Sissu this way. Just keep in mind that two wheelers are not allowed inside the tunnel, and visiting hours are typically from 10 AM to 3 PM. If you plan to take the Rohtang Pass route instead, you will need a permit which can be obtained online or from the SDM office in Manali. A Few Honest Tips Before You Go We want your Sissu trip to be smooth, comfortable, and full of good memories. So here are some practical things our team always shares with travellers before they head out. Give your body a little time to adjust to the altitude. Sissu is at 3,200 metres, and if you're coming directly from the plains, the height can catch you off guard. That's exactly why all our packages include at least one night in Manali before heading up. It makes a real difference. Carry enough cash with you. ATMs are rare in Sissu and mobile networks can be patchy, so don't count on UPI or card payments for everything. Keep enough for activities, snacks, tips, and any small emergencies. Pack in layers rather than just one heavy jacket. Mountain weather changes fast, even in summer. A good windproof jacket, warm thermals, sunscreen, sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes, and a hat are all essential no matter what time of year you visit. Bring a small medical kit with personal medications, basic first aid supplies, and altitude sickness tablets if you're prone to it. Sissu has a Primary Health Centre, but facilities are limited. It's always better to be prepared. Respect the local culture wherever you go. Sissu has deep Buddhist roots, and you'll find monasteries and temples throughout the valley. Dress modestly when visiting sacred places and always follow local customs. It goes a long way in building a good connection with the community. And finally, don't just eat at the same places you'd eat at home. Be adventurous with the food. Try thukpa, which is a warm and hearty noodle soup, fresh steaming momos, and traditional Himachali curries at the small dhabas along the route. Your taste buds will thank you. Where You'll Stay on Your Sissu Trip Sissu is a small village, but it offers a surprisingly nice range of stay options, and we've personally checked each one before including it in our packages. If you prefer the comfort of a proper room with an attached bathroom and reliable electricity, our hotel and guesthouse options in both Manali and Sissu have you covered. They're clean, well located, and offer mountain views that make waking up early totally worth it. For those who want something more memorable, our riverside camp and luxury camp stays are the most popular choice. They come with sturdy tents, clean washrooms, home cooked meals, bonfire setups, and that incredible feeling of sleeping in the lap of the Himalayas with the sound of a river right outside your tent. And if you really want to connect with the place on a deeper level, homestays are a beautiful option. Staying with a local Lahauli family gives you a chance to share meals, hear stories, and experience a way of life that most travellers never get to see. It's simple, warm, and deeply enriching. No matter which option you choose, every stay in our packages is handpicked based on cleanliness, safety, guest feedback, and real value. You'll never get a random last minute booking with us. Let's Plan Your Sissu Trip Together A Sissu tour package isn't just another vacation on your calendar. It's a chance to step into a world that feels untouched by time, where mountains hold ancient stories, rivers sing you to sleep, and the night sky puts on a show that no city could ever compete with. At Travel Coffee, we pour our heart into every itinerary we create. We're not here to sell you a generic trip. We're here to give you an experience that stays with you long after you've unpacked your bags. Because that's what the mountains deserve, and so do you. So go ahead. Pick the package that speaks to you, or reach out to us on WhatsApp at +91 7018537498 and let's build your dream Sissu trip together. Whether it's a snowy winter escape, a sunny summer road trip, or a quiet autumn getaway, we've got you covered. Pack your bags. Sip your coffee. And let the Himalayas call you home.

Top Places to Visit in and Around Sissu

Raja Ghepan Temple

Raja Ghepan Temple

Raja Ghepan Temple in Sissu village is the only temple of Lord Ghepan, the presiding deity of the Lahaul valley. The building is small and modern looking, not architecturally grand, but it is the most important religious site in Lahaul for local people. Devotees climb a few steps to pay respects at a grille, where a tall wooden post wrapped in colourful fabrics represents the deity. Tourists can pay respects at the grille like the passing vehicles that slow down here. The inner sanctum is generally reserved for locals. Pair it with a Sissu day, not a dedicated trip.

Sissu Monastery (Labrang Gompa)

Sissu Monastery (Labrang Gompa)

Sissu Monastery is the common name for Labrang Gompa, a small Buddhist monastery in Labrang village just above Sissu in the Lahaul valley, dedicated to the protector deity Palden Lhamo. It sits on slightly higher ground than Sissu, a short walk or 5 minute drive uphill, with an open view across the Chandra valley. The gompa has a fairly modern look, not ancient, with Buddha statues inside. Like most Lahaul gompas, it is often locked, and you need to find the caretaker lama for a look in. Worth a 20 to 30 minute stop in Sissu, not a day trip on its own.

Atal Tunnel

Atal Tunnel

The Atal Tunnel is a 9.02 km highway tunnel on NH 3 that cuts under the Pir Panjal range between Dhundi (south portal) and Teling near Sissu (north portal), bypassing Rohtang Pass. Inaugurated in October 2020 and named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee, it is the world's longest highway single tube tunnel above 10,000 feet. It is the reason Lahaul is now accessible from Manali year round. You drive through it in 15 to 20 minutes at the posted speed. It is a public highway, not a tourist site, with no entry fee and no stopping or photography allowed inside.

Sissu Waterfall

Sissu Waterfall

Sissu Waterfall, locally called Palden Lhamo Dhar, is a tall cliff waterfall across the Chandra river from Sissu village, about 40 km from Manali via the Atal Tunnel. You see it from the highway, Sissu Lake, or the helipad above. It runs full in July and August and freezes into an ice column from December to February. Most travellers stop for 15 to 30 minutes. A suspension footbridge downstream also lets you cross the river and hike roughly 1 to 2 km to the base, though bridge conditions vary, so check locally.

Koksar Village

Koksar Village

Koksar is a small Lahauli village on the Chandra river at around 3,140 metres, about 7 km east of the Atal Tunnel north portal, historically the first settlement after Rohtang Pass. Today it functions as a tea and dhaba halt, a police check post where vehicles heading to Chandratal and Spiti register, and a modest overnight option if Sissu is full. Generally described as the coldest inhabited place in Lahaul. Most travellers stop for 20 to 40 minutes, register if required, and move on.

Gondhla Fort

Gondhla Fort

Gondhla Fort is a tall wood and stone tower in Gondhla village on the Manali to Leh highway, about 18 km south of Keylong and roughly 53 km from Manali via the Atal Tunnel. At around 3,160 metres, it is generally described as a seven storey Kath Kuni structure built around 1700 AD by Raja Man Singh of Kullu. Privately held by descendants of the Thakurs of Gondhla, largely unoccupied today, and in dilapidated condition. Plan a 20 to 30 minute halt on a drive between Sissu and Tandi, not a dedicated trip.

Keylong

Keylong

Keylong is the district headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti and the only settlement in the valley that functions as a proper town. It sits at around 3,080 metres on the left bank of the Bhaga river, roughly 71 km and 2 to 2.5 hours from Manali via the Atal Tunnel. Most travellers stop here for one or two nights as the logistics base for Lahaul, the market, the ATMs, the hospital, and the three main monasteries of Kardang, Shashur, and Tayul. Winter visits have become practical since the tunnel opened in 2020, bringing snow travel to a town that used to be cut off for six months a year.

Tandi Sangam

Tandi Sangam

Tandi Sangam is where the Chandra and Bhaga rivers meet in the Pattan valley of Lahaul to form the Chandrabhaga, which later becomes the Chenab once it enters Jammu. It sits at around 2,570 metres at river level, roughly 7 km south of Keylong and about two hours from Manali through the Atal Tunnel. Most travellers see it as a short highway halt from the Tandi bridge on the way to Keylong, Jispa, or Leh. The site carries real religious weight for locals, and the village pump here is still the most relied on refuelling point in Lahaul.

Sissu Lake

Sissu Lake

Sissu Lake is a small man made water body at the edge of Sissu village in Lahaul, at around 3,120 metres, reached in about 90 minutes from Manali through the Atal Tunnel. It sits near the helipad on the opposite bank of the Chandra river from the Sissu Waterfall. Most travellers spend 20 to 45 minutes here on their way into or out of Lahaul. Good for a walk, a quick boat ride in summer, photos of the frozen surface in winter, and a chai stop. Not a destination in itself.

Sissu Village

Sissu Village

Sissu is a small Lahauli village at around 3,120 m on the Chandra river, roughly 40 km from Manali via the Atal Tunnel. It is the first proper settlement after the tunnel and the easiest entry into Lahaul, accessible year round. Most travellers come for the waterfall visible from the highway, the small lake, the helipad sunset viewpoint, and one or two nights of the valley before heading back or pushing deeper towards Keylong and Spiti.

Jispa

Jispa

Jispa sits at roughly 3,200 m on the Bhaga river in Lahaul, about 20 km north of Keylong on the Manali to Leh highway. Most travellers know it as the first comfortable overnight halt after Manali on the road to Ladakh, but the riverside camping here is genuinely one of the best in Himachal, and it deserves a night on its own terms.

Village Heritage Walk

Village Heritage Walk

Sissu and the surrounding hamlets offer a genuine glimpse into traditional Lahauli life. Walk through narrow lanes lined with old stone-and-timber houses, pass apple orchards and cauliflower fields, and chat with locals going about their day. You will notice Buddhist prayer flags, small shrines, and the occasional sound of temple bells. The village is home to just over 2,000 people, and the pace of life here is the complete opposite of anything you have known in a city. No guide required. Just walk, observe, and let the village show itself to you.

Fishing In The Chandra River

Fishing In The Chandra River

The Chandra River, flowing right past Sissu, offers catch-and-release trout fishing during the summer months. The river's cold glacial waters are home to both brown and rainbow trout. You will need a fishing permit from the local authorities, available at Keylong, and it is best to carry your own basic gear or rent it from Manali. The quiet riverbanks, with mountain views in every direction, make the whole experience as much about relaxation as it is about the catch.

Monastery And Gompa Circuit

Monastery And Gompa Circuit

The Lahaul Valley around Sissu is dotted with ancient Buddhist monasteries, each with its own history, architecture, and mountain views. Start with Gyephang Temple in Sissu itself, then extend your trip to Kardang Monastery near Keylong, the centuries-old Guru Ghantal Monastery (one of the oldest in Lahaul), and Tayul Gompa, known for its sacred statue. A full monastery circuit takes a day and gives you a deep sense of the spiritual fabric of this region.
