Do you need an E-Pass for Sissu in 2026?

The official Himachal Pradesh e-Aagman portal currently states that vehicles wanting to enter District Lahaul and Spiti have to apply for an E-Pass. The portal also separates E-Permit and E-Ticket requirements based on route or destination.

The exact e-Aagman category that applies to a Sissu-only trip can vary by route and current rules. Check the live portal close to your travel date for the applicable E-Pass, E-Permit, or E-Ticket requirement before entering Lahaul and Spiti.

What Happens After Fresh Snowfall?

A big snowfall does not just mean pretty scenery. It changes how the road works for a few days.

After a real snowfall you may run into snow clearance work, a temporary closure, police regulated traffic, phased reopening where the road opens in stages, slower vehicle movement, and vehicle specific restrictions.

Authorities have restricted movement to 4x4 vehicles after heavy snowfall during documented 2026 winter events. But a cleared, dry December road and a fresh post snowfall road are completely different situations. 

On a clear day a regular car may be fine. After a dump, you follow whatever the police restriction says that day, not what an article told you months earlier.

What about snow chains, tyres and traction?

Sissu Lake

Sissu Lake sits with the Chandra Valley and snow dusted peaks behind it, and in winter the whole setting turns quiet and stark. It can freeze over, but do not count on it being fully frozen on any given date.

Sissu is a poor fit as a non negotiable, fixed time excursion for a few kinds of traveller. If you have a same day flight or transfer with no slack, a road delay can wreck your whole schedule.
