Winter Spiti from Bangalore in 2026-27: Flights, Leave Days & Delhi 4x4 Departures

Planning a Winter Spiti trip from Bangalore requires careful coordination of flights, leave days and fixed departure dates.
Since most winter expeditions begin from Delhi, travellers need to consider flight timings, overnight journeys, extreme weather conditions and possible travel delays before finalising their plans.
This guide by Travel Coffee explains how to plan a Winter Spiti trip from Bangalore, including flight options to Delhi, required leave days, joining a 4x4 group departure, estimated travel costs and important winter travel considerations.
It will help you understand how many days to keep aside, how to coordinate your flights with the expedition schedule and what to check before booking a comfortable and practical Winter Spiti adventure.
Quick Answer: Can You Plan Winter Spiti from Bangalore?
Yes. You can plan winter Spiti from Bangalore by flying to Delhi, joining a Friday evening departure, taking the included overnight Volvo to Shimla and riding the mountain stretch in a shared 4x4.
We run 8-day and 9-day departures. Six leave days can cover a tight November plan, but keep extra days because Himalayan delays can push back your return.
Here is what most first timers get wrong
The 4x4 does not wait for you at Delhi airport. Delhi to Shimla is a Volvo bus sector, and the real 4x4 journey starts in the hills.
So you plan two separate things: your flight into Delhi and your connection to the group's boarding point. You can see every current batch on our winter Spiti tour packages page.
How Does the Bangalore to Delhi to Winter Spiti Journey Work?

The complete journey from BLR to Kaza
Your trip starts at Bengaluru airport (BLR). You fly to Delhi airport (DEL) and collect your bags.
From the airport, you arrange your own transfer to the confirmed group boarding point. The package does not include this leg.
At the boarding point, you join the group and board the overnight Volvo to Shimla. You sleep on the bus and wake up in the hills.
In Shimla, you move into a shared mountain 4x4. From here, local drivers take the group up through Kinnaur and on to Kaza, the main town of Spiti.
On the way back, you return through the same Kinnaur corridor. Winter trips do not cross Kunzum Pass to Manali, because that road stays shut in the cold months.
Then you take another overnight Volvo from Shimla to Delhi, and fly home from there.
Why join an organised group from Delhi?
Winter Spiti needs a lot of moving parts to line up. A group trip handles the mountain vehicle, the winter stays, the local drivers and an itinerary that bends with the weather.
In our experience planning winter travel, the hardest part for Bangalore travellers is not the mountains. It is finding a capable vehicle and an open winter stay from 2,000 km away.
A group solves that. But it remains a shared group trip, not private transport. You travel on the group's timings, with other guests in the same vehicle.

Which Bangalore to Delhi Flights Should You Book?

Outbound flight: Thursday versus Friday
Air India advertises nonstop BLR to DEL flights with a flying time of about 2 hours 35 minutes.
That number covers only the time in the air. It leaves out baggage collection, walking out of the terminal and your transfer across Delhi.
For a Friday evening departure, we tell our travellers to fly in on Thursday. This one timing change removes most of the stress from the whole trip.
A Friday morning flight can work. But only book it after you confirm the exact flight, the actual pickup point and a realistic transfer margin. It is a tighter, riskier connection.
Delhi traffic on a Friday evening can eat your buffer fast. If your flight runs late, the Volvo will not wait indefinitely for one guest.
How should you choose the return flight?
The 8-day itinerary shows the group reaching Delhi on the morning of Day 8, around 06:00 to 09:00. Treat that as a plan, not a promise.
The mountain drive, the overnight Volvo and the Delhi airport transfer can all run late. One snowfall in Kinnaur can shift the whole schedule by a day or more.
Skip the cheapest non flexible return fare on Day 8 morning. It looks like a saving, but a missed flight and a fresh last minute fare will cost you far more.
Book a flexible fare, or a flight a few days after the scheduled return. We explain how many days below.
What about airfares and baggage?
Air India's route page currently shows a starting fare of ₹10,337 one way. This is a changeable marketing price, not a quote for 6 November or any date you pick.
Do not double it and assume that is your return fare. Check the live fare for your actual dates.
Check the baggage allowance on your fare too. Winter jackets, thermals and boots fill a bag quickly, and some cheaper fares allow less.
How Do You Reach the Delhi Group Pickup Point from the Airport?
Confirm the precise boarding stop first
Our package pages currently say "confirmed Delhi pickup point" rather than naming one fixed stop in the public itinerary.
Our team recommends checking the boarding point before booking a flight. Ask for the exact map location, the coordinator's phone number and your reporting time.
A quick safety note. Only trust boarding instructions that come in your voucher or from our team on +91-7018537498. If anyone else calls with a different stop or asks for extra payment, check with us first.
Other operators use various Delhi stops for their Volvos. That tells you nothing about where our group boards, so do not assume.
Airport transfer choices
Depending on your arrival terminal and the boarding stop, a taxi or the Airport Express Metro may suit you.
We cannot give you a fixed time or fare for this leg yet. Transfer time and cost will depend on your arrival terminal, the confirmed pickup location and traffic conditions. Check the latest route and fare before travelling, and allow extra time for possible delays.
Whatever you choose, plan to reach the boarding point at the start of the reporting window, not the end.
How Many Office Leave Days Do You Need for Winter Spiti?

This is the section that decides your whole trip. We use our 8-day batch from Friday 6 November to Friday 13 November 2026 as the example.
All of these numbers assume a normal Monday to Friday workweek. They do not include your company's holidays or any shift pattern.
The minimum six-working-day example
Say you fly to Delhi on Friday 6 November and join the group that evening.
You take leave on Friday 6 November, then Monday 9 to Friday 13 November. That makes six weekdays of leave.
The group reached Delhi on the morning of Friday 13 November. You could fly home on Saturday 14 November without using another leave day.
This works on paper. But it assumes a Friday flight into Delhi, no unusual company holidays and a trip that runs exactly to plan.
Treat it as a calendar minimum, not a winter safety plan. A Saturday 14 November flight leaves you very little room for delay.
It also falls well short of what our 8-day product page recommends: keeping three to four extra free days after the planned return.
A more comfortable eight-working-day example
Now fly to Delhi on Thursday 5 November and join the Friday 6 November departure.
The group returns to Delhi on Friday 13 November. You keep Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 November free, and fly home on Monday 16 November.
Your weekdays away from work run Thursday 5, Friday 6, Monday 9 to Friday 13, and Monday 16. That makes eight weekdays of leave.
You get two full free days after the scheduled tour ends before your flight. For most of our travellers, this is the sensible middle ground.
A stronger nine-working-day example
Keep the Thursday 5 November outbound flight and the same batch, but fly home on Tuesday 17 November.
Your weekdays off now total nine. Saturday 14, Sunday 15 and Monday 16 November become three full contingency days after the Friday return.
This matches the spirit of our three to four day buffer advice much better.
Be clear about one thing though. Spare days do not guarantee that a closed road will clear in time. They simply give you a fair chance.
Does a nine-day departure cost one more leave day?
Not necessarily. The 9-day trip from Friday 6 November ends on Saturday 14 November in the advertised itinerary.
If you work Monday to Friday, the trip itself still uses six weekdays: Friday 6 and Monday 9 to Friday 13. You could fly home on Sunday 15 November.
That plan leaves very little disruption margin, just like the tight 8-day plan.
Here is an insider point most people miss. Your real leave count depends far more on your flight days and buffer choice than on the 8D or 9D label.
So do not pick the shorter trip only to save leave. Compare the itineraries first, then plan your buffer.
Which Delhi 4x4 Winter Spiti Departures Are Available in 2026-27?

The eight-day option
Our Best Selling Kinnaur & Spiti Winter 4x4 Expedition runs 8 Days / 7 Nights, Delhi to Delhi.
Public departure examples include 6 to 13 November, 13 to 20 November, 20 to 27 November and 27 November to 4 December 2026.
The dedicated eight-day page advertises ₹25,999 per person for Delhi to Delhi triple sharing, GST included. But another selector on our site shows a different figure, so reconfirm the current final fare before you pay.
You can see the full plan on the 8-day Delhi winter Spiti 4x4 departure page.
The nine-day option
Our Most Loved 4x4 Winter Spiti Expedition runs 9 Days / 8 Nights.
Public departure examples include 6 to 14 November, 13 to 21 November, 20 to 28 November and 27 November to 5 December 2026.
Two of our pages currently show different prices for this trip, and we do not want to guess.
You can read the day by day plan on the 9-day winter Spiti 4x4 expedition page.
A listed batch date alone does not prove you have a seat or a vehicle. Get that confirmation directly from us before you book flights.
Should You Choose an Eight-Day or Nine-Day 4x4 Expedition?

The shorter eight-day plan
The 8-day trip has five mountain hotel nights: one in Sangla, one in Nako, two in Kaza and one in Kalpa. You also spend two nights on the Volvo.
It includes five breakfasts and five dinners on the mountain portion.
Here is the honest caveat: You reach Nako after just one night in Sangla. That is a fast altitude gain, and it will not suit everyone.
If you have never slept at high altitude before, think carefully about this before you choose the shorter trip.
The nine-day plan
The 9-day trip has six mountain hotel nights: two in Sangla, one in Tabo, two in Kaza and one in Kalpa. You also spend two nights on the Volvo.
It includes six breakfasts and six dinners.
The second Sangla night gives you a calmer start and more time in the Baspa Valley. It does not remove high altitude health risks, but it gives your body a gentler first stretch.
In our experience planning winter travel, extra days matter more than squeezing in one more sightseeing stop. That is why we lean towards the 9-day plan for first timers.
For a side by side look at the day plans, read our 7, 8 and 9-day winter Spiti itineraries.
What Does a Shared Delhi 4x4 Departure Actually Include?
Where the real 4x4 journey begins
The Delhi to Shimla sector and the return sector both run on overnight Volvo buses.
The mountain sector uses a shared Jimny, Scorpio-N 4WD or another confirmed true 4x4, with experienced local drivers.
Drivers carry snow chains and fit them when the road needs it.
A shared vehicle means you share it with other guests on the trip. How many people sit in each car depends on the vehicle, the staff and the luggage.
One insider detail many travellers miss: in a Jimny, the stated seat count includes the driver. Do not assume four guest seats plus a driver.
Why "winter group tour" and "dedicated 4x4 expedition" are not identical
Many standard winter group tours use a Tempo Traveller or an ordinary SUV. Some operators charge extra for a dedicated 4WD only if snow forces the switch.
A big SUV is not the same thing as four wheel drive. Always ask whether the vehicle actually has 4WD.
Also keep your expectations honest. A 4x4 grips better on snow and ice, but it does not make an unsafe or closed road passable.
Our winter Spiti 4x4 seating guide explains seat layouts and what to ask before you book.
What Places Can You Actually See on the Winter Route?

Through Kinnaur
Both trips climb through Shimla and Kinnaur. The plan includes Sangla and the Baspa Valley, with Rakcham and Chitkul when the roads allow, and Kalpa on the way back.
Fresh snow can shut the road to Chitkul and other smaller roads. Do not treat these visits as guaranteed.
If Kinnaur alone interests you for a shorter break, look at our Kinnaur tour options.
Into Spiti
Depending on your package, you sleep at Nako or Tabo before reaching Kaza.
The team plans visits to Tabo Monastery and Dhankar based on road and local opening conditions.
Around Kaza, the circuit may include Key Monastery, Kibber, Chicham Bridge, Langza, Komic and Hikkim, if access allows.
In the deep winter, some doors stay shut. The Hikkim post office, monastery interiors and some high villages may not open on your day.
What you will not cover
These winter trips do not include Chandratal, the Kunzum crossing or a return via Manali.
If you see a winter Spiti plan that loops through Manali, question it. Winter Spiti runs in and out through Shimla and Kinnaur.
How Much Does Winter Spiti from Bangalore Really Cost?

The Delhi to Delhi tour price is only one part of your total. Plan your budget in layers.
Start with your return airfare between Bengaluru and Delhi. Then add your airport transfers, and a Delhi hotel night if you fly in on Thursday.
On the road, you pay for your own lunches and snacks, any entry tickets or donations, room sharing upgrades and personal shopping.
Our chai recommendation for the Kinnaur stretch: stop at a roadside dhaba along the Shimla-Kinnaur route for a hot cup of chai and a short break, wherever road conditions and the day's schedule allow.
Since lunches stay outside the package, carry dry snacks for the long driving days.
The 8-day package includes its listed mountain stays, both Volvo sectors, the shared mountain 4x4, five breakfasts, five dinners and GST.
The 9-day package includes its listed mountain stays, both Volvo sectors, the shared mountain 4x4, six breakfasts, six dinners and GST.
Neither package covers flights or your transfer to the Delhi boarding point. They also leave out travel insurance, medical treatment, oxygen use, room heaters that hotels bill separately and any costs from weather or road closures.
For the price itself, our dedicated eight-day page advertises ₹25,999 per person on triple sharing, but prices may vary depending on the departure date and available arrangements. Request a written quote to confirm the final fare before booking.
For the nine-day trip, contact our team for the latest per-person price, sharing options and any applicable supplements.
We are not going to give you a single Bangalore to Bangalore total. Your fare, dates, room choice and buffer days change it too much for one honest number.
And please do not assume the Air India starting fare will be available on your dates. Check live fares before you finalise your budget.
Is the Shimla-Kinnaur-Kaza Road Open in Winter 2026-27?

Why winter trips travel through Shimla
The Lahaul and Spiti district administration lists Shimla to Kaza at about 412 km and about 20 hours of driving, excluding overnight halts.
It describes this route as an almost all weather connection. Snow, ice, rockfalls and other conditions can still block it.
That 20 hour figure adds up all the driving across several days. Nobody should try the full distance in one go, and our itineraries spread it over multiple nights.
Why Manali and Atal Tunnel are not the winter alternative
The district lists Keylong to Kaza via Kunzum at about 185 km.
According to the district, this road generally stays closed from around October or November until June or July, depending on snowfall.
The Atal Tunnel connects Manali with Lahaul. It does not skip the Kunzum section you need to reach Kaza, so it does not open a winter route to Spiti.
What if the Kinnaur road closes?
An official closure, black ice or heavy snowfall can delay a departure, change the route or stretch your stay.
The district's road status page shows a last update of 14 May 2024. Do not read its open or closed labels as current for late 2026 or early 2027.
Close to your departure, check current conditions with local authorities and with us.
For more road detail, read our Shimla to Kaza winter road guide.
How Difficult Are the Altitude, Cold and Winter Stays?
The altitude concern
The Kinnaur district government lists Nako at 3,663 metres.
On the 8-day plan, you sleep there early in the trip, after only one night in Sangla. That matters for acclimatisation.
The CDC advises a gradual ascent. Once above 3,000 metres, it generally suggests raising your sleeping altitude by no more than 500 metres per night, with extra time as you go higher.
Tell your guide straight away if you notice headache, nausea, dizziness or unusual breathlessness.
If symptoms get worse, you need professional medical attention and a safe descent as appropriate. Do not try to push through.
We cannot give personal medical clearance or medicine doses. Speak to your doctor before the trip, especially if you have any heart or breathing condition.
Cold, accommodation and electricity
District information records winter temperatures in the region dropping to around minus 20 degrees Celsius. That is not a forecast for Kaza on your exact dates, but it shows what the season can do.
Winter homestays and hotels can be basic. Expect limited hot water, separate charges for heating, and breaks in electricity, internet or UPI.
Water pipes can freeze. Carry some cash for the days when digital payments stop working.
We cannot promise snowfall in a particular village on your dates either. Some trips see heavy snow, others see dry cold.
Emergency support
Our advertised 4x4 trips carry an emergency oxygen cylinder. If you need to use it, the package exclusions say you pay for it separately.
Oxygen does not replace acclimatisation, a medical check or evacuation when needed. It is a backup, not a reason to climb faster.
What Should You Pack When Flying from Bangalore to Winter Spiti?

Bangalore weather does nothing to prepare you for a Spiti winter, so pack like you are going somewhere far colder than you have ever been.
Start with thermal inners for top and bottom. Add warm mid layers like a fleece, then a properly insulated jacket on top.
Carry a warm hat, good gloves and wool socks, with spares. Wear boots that grip on snow and ice.
Sun protection still matters. Pack sunscreen and good sunglasses, because sunlight off snow is harsh at altitude.
Keep a small bag with you on the Volvo. Put your essential medicines, chargers, ID and an extra warm layer in it, so you do not dig through the luggage hold at night.
Carry a power bank and enough emergency cash for network outages.
Before you pack, check your airline's baggage allowance for your exact fare. Rules differ, and your winter kit takes up more space than you expect.
What Must You Confirm Before Booking a Flight or Paying a Deposit?
Before you book anything, confirm your actual group date. Then get the final Delhi pickup map pin, reporting time and coordinator's phone number.
Ask about the latest realistic return time to Delhi. Check current road advisories close to departure.
Ask which 4WD model the team has assigned, or what equivalent they have agreed. Confirm how many guest seats it has and how big the group is.
Get your sharing category in writing, along with a complete quote including GST and any supplements.
Read the rules for missing the bus, cancellations and road closures. Check the medical exclusions, insurance terms and who pays for extra hotel nights or new flights if roads shut.
Our 8-day product page recommends keeping three to four extra free days after the scheduled return. Think of this as sensible flexibility, not a promise that a blocked road will clear within that time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I complete winter Spiti from Bangalore in eight days?
The tour itself fits into eight days, Delhi to Delhi. Add flight days and a buffer, and the full trip from Bangalore usually runs longer.
Are there nonstop flights between Bangalore and Delhi?
Yes. Air India advertises nonstop BLR to DEL flights of about 2 hours 35 minutes in the air.
How many office leave days should I apply for?
The bare minimum is six weekdays for a 6 November batch. We suggest eight or nine, so you have real buffer days after the return.
Can I fly to Delhi on the Friday departure day?
You can, but it is a tight connection. A Thursday arrival is much safer.
What time and where does the Delhi tour start?
Reporting runs around 19:00 to 20:00 on Friday, with Volvo boarding around 20:00 to 21:00. Your voucher confirms the exact pickup point.
Does the 4x4 pick me up at Delhi airport?
No. You reach the Delhi boarding point yourself, take the Volvo to Shimla, and the shared 4x4 starts from there.
What is the difference between a shared 4x4 and a normal group tour?
A shared 4x4 trip uses true four wheel drive vehicles for the mountains. Many normal group tours use a Tempo Traveller or ordinary SUV.
What is the total cost from Bangalore?
It depends on your airfare, transfers, room choice and buffer days. Add those to the tour fare, which you should confirm live with us.
How many return buffer days should I keep?
Our 8-day product page recommends three to four extra free days after the planned return.
Is Manali to Kaza open during winter?
No. The Kunzum road generally stays closed from around October or November until June or July.
Is winter Spiti safe for someone unfamiliar with high altitude?
It can work with care, but the risk is real. Choose a slower itinerary, speak to your doctor first and report symptoms early.
Do Indian citizens need a permit for Spiti?
Indian citizens generally do not need an Inner Line or Protected Area Permit for normal Spiti tourism, but carry valid photo ID. Foreign nationals need permits for protected areas.
