Winter Spiti from Ahmedabad for New Year 2027: 4x4 Expedition, Flights, Trains and Total Cost

Quick Answer
Travellers doing winter Spiti from Ahmedabad fly or take a train to Delhi and join Travel Coffee's New Year 4x4 expedition there on 24 December 2026. It runs Delhi to Delhi through Shimla, Kinnaur and Spiti, with New Year's Eve planned in Kaza. The displayed Delhi price is ₹38,999 per person.
Your Ahmedabad to Delhi flights or train are extra, so budget for them separately.
No flight or train reaches Spiti. That is why almost every winter traveller from Gujarat does the same thing: get to Delhi first, then let a local team drive the mountain part. You are not missing a secret direct route. There isn't one.
This guide is for the Ahmedabad traveller who wants snow, a real New Year, and someone reliable handling the icy roads. We will keep it honest about the cold, the costs and what can change.
Is Winter Spiti a Good New Year Trip for Travellers from Ahmedabad?

Yes, if you want a proper winter adventure and not a comfortable resort break. A winter Spiti trip means frozen rivers, empty roads, villages buried in snow and a New Year's Eve at nearly 3,800 metres.
This is nothing like a Shimla or Manali holiday. In Spiti you cross long snow stretches, stay in simple village homes and spend real hours in the car.
Here is what most tourists get wrong. They picture Spiti in winter as a soft snow-point outing. It is not. It is a high, cold, remote expedition, and the comfort level drops the further you go.
Solo travellers, couples, friends and adventure-minded groups usually love it. You share a 4x4, meet other travellers and ring in 2027 together in Kaza.
You should be comfortable with severe cold, high altitude, long travel days and plans that change with the weather. The mountains decide the schedule, not the brochure.
Reconsider this trip if you need guaranteed heating, hot showers every night, or a fixed return you cannot move. Snowfall can delay the drive back, and no operator can promise a particular comfort or a rigid date.
We do not make blanket promises about children, elderly travellers or anyone with a medical condition. If that is you, talk to us and to your doctor first, then decide. If you want the easier snow option, compare it with our other Spiti tour packages from Ahmedabad before you lock this one in.
How to Reach the Winter Spiti Expedition from Ahmedabad

Short answer: reach Delhi by 23 December, then join the expedition's overnight Volvo on the evening of 24 December. Delhi is the start and end point for everyone.
Ahmedabad to Delhi by Flight
Direct flights run daily between Ahmedabad and Delhi, and the flight itself is short, roughly one and a half hours in the air. For a fixed evening departure, flying is the simplest way in.
Check live routes and fares straight from the airlines, like IndiGo and Air India. Festival-week prices move a lot, so we will not quote a December fare here.
Book early. Christmas and New Year is peak demand, and the cheap seats on 23 and 24 December go first.
Ahmedabad to Delhi by Train
Trains connect Ahmedabad to Delhi too, usually an overnight or full-day journey depending on the train you pick. No train goes anywhere near Kaza, so a train only gets you to Delhi.
Use IRCTC to check the exact trains, stations, dates and live availability for your travel window. Festive dates fill fast, so a confirmed berth matters more than a cheap one.
If the train runs late, you risk the 24 December Volvo. Build in a full buffer day rather than cutting it fine.
From Delhi Airport or Railway Station to the Volvo Boarding Point
The expedition leaves from a confirmed Delhi boarding point on the evening of 24 December. Delhi traffic is unpredictable, so give yourself real time to reach it.
We share the exact pickup location on confirmation. Do not assume it is next to the airport or your station, and do not plan a tight transfer across the city in the evening.
Can You Join from Chandigarh or Shimla?
Yes, on request, and it is priced separately. The listed ₹38,999 is for Delhi to Delhi only.
Joining at Shimla on 25 December and finishing there on 2 January gives you a nine-day version with the same eight hotel nights, minus the two Volvo journeys. A Chandigarh option depends on the bus routing.
If you are routing through Chandigarh or Shimla anyway, ask us for that quote before you book the Delhi version.
When Should You Arrive in Delhi?
Arrive on 23 December if you can. A night in Delhi means a delayed flight or a late train does not cost you the whole trip.
If you must travel on 24 December, take a morning flight, not an afternoon one, and keep hours of spare time before the evening Volvo. A missed flight or a late train on departure day is the single biggest risk Ahmedabad travellers face on this trip.
What Is the Real Total Cost of Winter Spiti from Ahmedabad?

The displayed package price is ₹38,999 per person, checked on 2 November 2026. Reconfirm it with us before booking, because the final figure depends on your room sharing and options.
That ₹38,999 is a Delhi price, and the lead figure is for triple sharing. Double or single occupancy costs more.
Here is exactly what it covers. Return overnight Volvo between Delhi and Shimla, the shared Shimla to Narkanda transfer on 25 December, and the shared 4x4 from Narkanda on 26 December to Shimla on 2 January.
On top of that you get eight nights of stay, eight breakfasts and eight dinners, a trip captain and local drivers, walkie-talkies, an emergency oxygen cylinder on the mountain leg, permit assistance, fuel, tolls, parking, group photos and GST.
Now the parts it does not cover, and these matter most for your real budget. Your Ahmedabad to Delhi flights or train, your transfer to the Delhi boarding point, lunches, snacks, drinks and bottled water.
Also excluded: breakfast on 25 December, meals on the Volvo, dinner in Shimla on 2 January, room heaters where charged, travel insurance, oxygen use, medical care, and any extra nights caused by weather.
So the headline number is not your total. Let us do two honest planning examples.
Example one. Take ₹38,999 for the package, add an assumed ₹15,000 return flight, about ₹2,000 for Delhi transfers and roughly ₹4,000 for lunches and personal spends. That lands near ₹59,999 per person.
Example two. Keep everything the same but assume a costlier ₹25,000 return flight. That lands near ₹69,999 per person.
These are maths examples, not real festive airfare quotes. Pull your actual ticket price from the airlines, and keep a separate contingency reserve for weather delays.
A cheaper train and tempo traveller package will usually show a lower sticker price. The trade-off is the vehicle and the experience, not just the number.
A tempo traveller is one large vehicle, better on highways than on icy mountain tracks, and these cheaper tours often carry fewer Kaza nights and a shorter plan.
A shared 4x4 with snow chains, a trip captain, convoy walkie-talkies, emergency oxygen and three nights in Kaza buys capability and the New Year itself.
We will not tell you we are the cheapest, because we are not. For a traveller whose priority is the winter 4x4 experience and a planned New Year in Kaza, this is strong value. You can see our full winter Spiti 4x4 trip cost breakdown in our detailed cost guide if you want the long version.
Christmas 2026 to New Year 2027: The Actual 11 Day Travel Coffee Itinerary

This is the real plan for the 24 December 2026 to 3 January 2027 departure. Snow and road safety can change any day, so treat it as the intended route. For how the New Year window looks across the whole of Spiti, see our Spiti New Year trip guide.
24 December: Delhi Departure
Your trip starts in Delhi on the evening of 24 December. You board the overnight Volvo to Shimla and rest on the way.
Keep warm layers, medicines and overnight things in a small bag within reach. Breakfast and meals on this journey are your own.
25 December: Shimla, Narkanda and Christmas
You reach Shimla, meet the team and take the included transfer to Narkanda, at around 2,700 metres. Breakfast on arrival is at your own cost.
Check in, rest, and gather with the group for the Christmas dinner at the stay. It is the first evening together before the longer drives begin.
26 and 27 December: The Kinnaur Journey and Sangla
On 26 December you meet the mountain team and start the shared 4x4 drive, dropping through the Kotgarh apple belt and along the Sutlej into Kinnaur. The run to Sangla, at about 2,621 metres, is roughly 190 km and 8 to 9 hours.
You stay two nights in Sangla. On 27 December you head up the Baspa Valley towards Rakcham and Chitkul at around 3,450 metres, if the road is safe.
If the Chitkul road is blocked, the team reshapes the day around what can be reached. Winter access up there is never guaranteed.
28 December: Tabo
You leave early for Tabo, travelling through Khab, the Ka Loops and a possible brief Nako stop at around 3,660 metres. It is a long day, roughly 200 km and 8 to 9 hours.
Tabo sits at about 3,280 metres. The evening stays simple: check in, dinner and rest, with the monastery visit planned for morning.
29 December: Arrival in Kaza
You visit the thousand-year-old Tabo Monastery when open, then drive on towards Kaza with a possible Dhankar stop at around 3,890 metres. The leg is shorter, roughly 75 km and 3 to 4 hours.
You reach Kaza at about 3,800 metres and settle in for three nights. No more packing until New Year is done.
30 December: Kaza Sightseeing
Today's planned outing covers Key Monastery at around 4,166 metres, the high village of Kibber, and Chicham, home to one of Asia's highest bridges. The team sets the order by road, daylight and how everyone is feeling at altitude.
You return to Kaza for the evening. If a road is closed, the plan shifts to what is open.
31 December: High Villages and New Year's Eve in Kaza
The last morning of the year is a flexible run to the high villages: Langza with its Buddha statue, Komic at around 4,587 metres, and Hikkim, home to the world's highest post office, conditions permitting. If the higher roads are shut, you spend the time closer to Kaza.
The evening is set aside for the planned New Year gathering in Kaza. That means a group dinner, the last photo of 2026 and a midnight countdown into 2027.
We plan it, but we do not promise a DJ, a bonfire, alcohol or fireworks unless your booking lists them. At this altitude, in deep winter, the celebration is a warm group dinner and a countdown, and that is honestly plenty.
1 January: Kaza to Kalpa
You start the year in Kaza, then leave early for the long drive to Kalpa through Tabo, Sumdo and Nako. The leg is roughly 190 km and 8 to 9 hours.
Kalpa sits at around 2,759 metres. If road conditions block the transfer, the team may arrange an intermediate halt instead.
2 January: Kalpa to Shimla
After a brief Kalpa morning, with luck a clear view of the Kinner Kailash range, you drive back to Shimla. It is the longest road day, roughly 240 km and 8 to 10 hours.
There is no hotel room in Shimla on the return, and dinner there is your own. You board the overnight Volvo to Delhi that night, and the connection depends on how the mountain drive goes.
3 January: Delhi Arrival
You reach Delhi in the morning and the trip ends. Arrival time depends on traffic, weather and any earlier delays, so it is planned, not guaranteed.
Keep your onward travel home flexible. Do not book a tight same-morning flight out of Delhi.
One thing confuses people, so let us clear it up. The trip is eleven days and ten nights, but only eight of those nights are in hotels or homestays.
The other two nights are the overnight Volvo journeys between Delhi and Shimla, which is why there is no separate stay on 24 December or 2 January. There is no weather buffer day built in.
Why Choose a Shared 4x4 Instead of a Tempo Traveller?

Because winter Spiti roads reward traction and small, capable vehicles. A shared 4x4 handles snow, ice and narrow mountain tracks far better than a big tempo traveller.
With a shared 4x4 you get an experienced local driver, four-wheel drive, snow chains when needed and a vehicle that can keep moving where a large bus would struggle. The trade-off is less interior space, since seating is shared.
A regular group tour on a tempo traveller is usually cheaper per seat and roomier on flat roads. On icy climbs and tight turns it is less sure-footed, and operators often avoid the trickier winter stretches.
A private locally driven vehicle gives you a flexible, personal trip, at a higher cost. A self-drive winter expedition puts all the risk on you, and we do not recommend it unless you have serious high-altitude snow experience.
Your vehicle on the mountain leg may be a Jimny, a Scorpio N 4WD or another suitable confirmed 4x4. We do not promise one specific model unless it is named in your written booking.
A 4x4 improves capability. It never guarantees safe passage, because a closed or dangerous road stays closed whatever you drive. If you are weighing the money, our team can walk you through what the price difference actually buys.
How Does Travel Coffee Manage Winter Spiti Operations?

We run this as a convoy expedition with a travelling team, not a drop-and-go tour. The package lists experienced local drivers, a dedicated trip captain who joins in Shimla, walkie-talkies between the vehicles and an emergency oxygen cylinder on the mountain journey.
A responsible operator briefs you before departure on the cold, the altitude, the daily plan and what to carry. Expect that from us, and ask for it if it is not clear.
Winter plans live and die by road status. Our team tracks conditions, takes local updates and makes honest go or no-go calls on each stretch.
When weather turns, the route changes. That can mean a different road, a changed stay, a dropped sightseeing stop or a later return, and we tell you in writing when it happens.
Some things are worth confirming directly with us for your batch, and we would rather you ask than assume.
That includes driver and commercial vehicle documentation, any local taxi-union arrangements, how we escalate a road block, and what extra winter kit the vehicles carry, such as shovels, tow ropes, blankets and a tyre inflator.
We will not dress up these systems as certified or guaranteed beyond what we can show you on paper. A dedicated backup vehicle is not part of the advertised package, and we say so plainly rather than implying a safety net that is not there.
What Do Real Ahmedabad Travellers Say About Travel Coffee?
Two of these accounts are from Ahmedabad guests, and one is from a separate winter traveller. We are keeping them accurate, so note which is which.
Shreyansh Jain, from Ahmedabad, travelled with two families on a Kaza-route trip we organised. His account on this YouTube short covers the advance Jain food arrangements at the hotels, the food in Sangla and Kalpa, the property in Narkanda and the cab service.
It shows what advance dietary coordination for Ahmedabad guests can look like, though it is a general Kaza-route trip, not this winter New Year batch.
Pratiksha Kujur, also from Ahmedabad, left a review dated 12 October 2026 on TripAdvisor. She appreciated the organised Spiti itinerary, the supportive team and responsive coordination.
It speaks to the planning and support side, and it is a Spiti trip account, not specifically a winter one.
A separate winter traveller, Praveen Kumar, describes a winter Spiti 4x4 experience from around February 2026. He credits the driver and trip captain, Amit Kumar, and the coordination from Preeti Jasyal.
That is useful context for winter driving and guest support. His home city is not established, so we do not call him an Ahmedabad traveller.
None of these is a promise about your weather, your vehicle or your safety. They are individual experiences. You can read more traveller reviews on our reviews page.
Can You Get Jain or Vegetarian Food on a Winter Spiti Expedition?

Yes, with planning, and planning is the whole point on a remote winter route. Kitchens here run on locally available supplies, so nothing should be left to chance on the day.
Shreyansh's real experience is the useful example. On his Kaza-route trip, Jain food was arranged in advance at the hotels, including the stays in Sangla, Kalpa and Narkanda.
Here is how to get the same. Before you travel, share your exact needs in writing: vegetarian, Jain, no onion and no garlic, allergies, and anything else that matters. We then check each stay so the kitchen is ready for you.
Be realistic about the limits. Winter kitchens are small and supplies are basic, so we cannot promise a separate Jain kitchen or zero cross-contact at every property. Get the confirmations in writing and carry your own backup snacks for the long drives.
What we tell our Ahmedabad families is simple. Tell us the food rules early, carry a day box of familiar snacks, and you will eat well even on the longest road days.
How Cold, Remote and Altitude-Sensitive Is Spiti During New Year?

Very cold, genuinely remote, and high enough that altitude needs respect. Treat all three seriously and the trip is wonderful.
Winter Cold and Clothing
Pack for severe cold, not a normal hill-station winter. You want thermal layers, down insulation, a proper winter jacket, waterproof winter boots with grip, gloves, a warm cap and a neck warmer, plus sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm.
Coming from Ahmedabad, this is far more cold-weather kit than you own for a Gujarat winter. Our winter Spiti packing list spells out the exact clothes, boots and gear in this checklist.
Accommodation, Heating and Hot Water
Winter facilities vary a lot by property. Expect practical homestays, guesthouses or hotels with simple arrangements, not premium rooms.
Heating and hot water are limited. Electric blankets, where available, warm the bed and not the room, room heaters may cost extra, and frozen pipes can mean bucket water or a dry toilet.
An attached bathroom and a daily hot shower cannot be guaranteed throughout. If a facility is essential for you, tell us before you pay. For the real ground picture, see what actually works for food, water, power and network in winter Spiti.
Altitude and Acclimatisation
Kaza sits around 3,800 metres, and the villages rise above 4,500 metres. The itinerary climbs gradually through Kinnaur first, which helps your body adjust.
Keep activity light on arrival at altitude, report headache, nausea or unusual tiredness early, and do not go higher while unwell. For credible medical guidance on gradual ascent and altitude illness, read the CDC's high-altitude travel advice.
If you have a heart, lung or other relevant condition, speak to your doctor before booking. The trip reduces altitude risk with a sensible route, but it cannot prevent altitude sickness.
Network, Electricity and Emergency Support
Mobile service, internet, UPI and card payments may not work consistently in remote spots. Batteries also drain fast in the cold.
Carry emergency cash, a charged power bank and offline copies of your documents. Medical help is limited, and the emergency oxygen on board does not replace proper medical care or evacuation.
Road Closures and Sightseeing Changes
The Shimla and Kinnaur approach is the usual winter route into Spiti. The Kunzum Pass and the Manali to Kaza circuit are generally closed in winter, so Manali is not an exit.
Each village road is judged on its own. An open road to Kaza does not mean Chitkul, Dhankar, Key, Chicham or the high villages are all reachable, and monastery interiors depend on local opening.
Skip any plan that promises you Chandratal on this trip. Chandratal is not part of this expedition, and in deep winter that side is closed, so a December Chandratal visit here is selling a road that does not exist.
We also cannot promise snowfall on Christmas or New Year's Eve, only that the chance is high. If a closure does strand you, here is what to do when snow shuts a road or forces a plan B.
How Many Leave Days Do Ahmedabad Working Professionals Need?

Count the weekdays first. 24 December 2026 falls on a Thursday and 3 January 2027 falls on a Sunday.
Seven weekdays fall within the advertised dates. How many leave days you actually burn depends on whether your office treats Christmas Day and New Year's Day as holidays.
We suggest arriving in Delhi on 23 December and keeping 4 January free after you return. That protects you against a delayed flight on the way out and a snow-delayed return on the way back.
We will not promise this fits into just five leave days. Plan on the full working days inside the dates, plus the buffer, and you will travel relaxed instead of anxious.
What Should You Confirm Before Booking a Winter Spiti 4x4 Expedition?

Ask these before you pay, in short, clear messages. Getting written answers now saves arguments later.
Confirm the current departure price for your room sharing, and the booking and cancellation conditions. Our cancellation slabs are specific: 25% of the cost if you cancel 30 days or more before travel, 50% between 15 and 29 days, and 100% within 14 days.
Pay only through official Travel Coffee channels, which are the payment links, UPI and bank accounts listed on our website. Payments to personal accounts or anyone calling themselves a representative are not recognised, and that is how festive-season booking scams work.
Then confirm the Delhi pickup point, your room sharing and accommodation details, the vehicle type and your seat allocation, your food requests, heating arrangements, and which meals are included and excluded.
Also confirm how weather changes to the itinerary are handled, the medical and insurance exclusions, who pays for extra nights if a road closes, the emergency contact setup, and any driver and trip captain details we can share.
That is a long list, and it should be. A good operator answers all of it in writing without hesitation.
Message our Himachal team on WhatsApp and we will send the current Ahmedabad connection advice, your departure quote, room options and the full written inclusions.
Should You Book Travel Coffee's New Year Winter Spiti Expedition?
Here is our honest recommendation. Book it if you want a properly organised shared 4x4 mountain journey, local support, a social group experience, Christmas in Narkanda and three planned nights in Kaza for New Year.
Go in with open eyes. The experience comes with harsh weather, remote facilities, long drives and real uncertainty about roads and timing.
If your first priority is the lowest possible price, a cheaper train and tempo traveller option may suit you better, and that is a fair choice. If your first priority is the winter 4x4 experience and a planned New Year at altitude, this is the stronger pick.
For the right traveller, a well-run winter Spiti from Ahmedabad expedition is one of the best New Years you will ever have. For the wrong one, the cold and the uncertainty will not be worth it, and only you know which you are.
If it sounds like your kind of trip, read the full inclusions and dates on the Exclusive Winter Spiti New Year 4x4 Expedition page, and talk to our Himachal team on WhatsApp for the current quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a direct flight from Ahmedabad to Spiti Valley or Kaza?
No. There is no airport in Spiti and no direct flight or train to Kaza. You fly to Delhi, then join the road expedition. The mountain travel from Delhi is by Volvo and shared 4x4.
Is it better to fly to Delhi or travel by train from Ahmedabad?
Flying is faster and simpler for a fixed evening departure, usually about an hour and a half in the air. A train is slower and only reaches Delhi. Whichever you choose, check live fares and availability on the official airline sites or IRCTC, and book early for festive dates.
What is the total cost of a New Year Spiti 4x4 expedition from Ahmedabad?
The Delhi package is displayed at ₹38,999 per person, and that excludes your Ahmedabad travel. As planning maths, a total near ₹59,999 or ₹69,999 per person is realistic once you add flights, transfers and personal spends. Get real ticket prices and reconfirm the package before booking.
Does Travel Coffee include flights from Ahmedabad?
No. The package is Delhi to Delhi. Your Ahmedabad to Delhi flights or train tickets, and your transfer to the Delhi boarding point, are not included and are arranged by you.
Can I join the expedition directly from Shimla or Chandigarh?
Yes, on request, and it is priced separately from the Delhi listing. Joining at Shimla on 25 December and ending there on 2 January gives a nine-day version with the same eight hotel nights and no Volvo journeys. Ask us for that specific quote.
Why does the 11 day package include only eight accommodation nights?
Because two of the ten nights are overnight Volvo journeys between Delhi and Shimla. Those replace a hotel on 24 December and on 2 January. The eight stay nights are in Narkanda, Sangla, Tabo, Kaza and Kalpa.
Where will Travel Coffee celebrate Christmas and New Year's Eve?
Christmas evening is planned at the Narkanda stay on 25 December, and New Year's Eve in Kaza on 31 December. Both depend on reaching the locations safely. The celebration is a group dinner and a midnight countdown, not a guaranteed party with music or alcohol.
Will I get a Jimny or Scorpio N, and do I need to drive?
The mountain leg uses a shared 4x4, usually a Jimny, Scorpio N 4WD or another suitable confirmed 4x4. We do not promise one model unless it is named in writing. You travel as a passenger. You never need to drive yourself.
Is a shared 4x4 better than a tempo traveller in winter Spiti?
For snow and ice, usually yes. A 4x4 has traction, snow chains and small-vehicle agility on narrow mountain roads. A tempo traveller is cheaper and roomier but less sure-footed on winter stretches. Neither vehicle can guarantee a closed road will open.
Can vegetarian and Jain guests get suitable meals and heating?
Vegetarian and Jain meals can be arranged at the stays if you share your needs in writing before travelling. Heating and hot water are limited and sometimes chargeable, and a separate Jain kitchen cannot be promised at every property. Confirm both before you pay.
What happens if snowfall closes the road or delays the return?
The team may change the route, the stay or the celebration location, and the return can run past 3 January. Any extra nights, meals or transport from such delays are not included and are paid by you. This is why you keep spare days and a contingency reserve.
Can I travel through Manali, Kunzum Pass or Chandratal in December?
No. The Kunzum Pass and the Manali to Kaza circuit are generally closed in winter, so Manali is not an entry or exit. Chandratal is not part of this expedition and is inaccessible in deep winter. The route goes in and out through Shimla and Kinnaur.
