What Are the Current Triund Trekking and Camping Rules in 2026?

A Kangra district administration announcement, reported on 25 February 2026, allowed trekking on the Triund route between sunrise and sunset, and kept night trekking prohibited.

The August 2026 waste-management rule

The Tribune reported a waste rule effective 11 August 2026, requiring trekkers to carry their waste back down.

You collect garbage bags at the forest checkposts and pay a refundable ₹500 deposit. You get it back after you show the receipt, hand back the bag and officials verify you complied. Fail to return the waste and you lose it.

Confirm the setup for you or your group at the checkpost, since individual-versus-group handling is not independently confirmed. Keep the waste-deposit receipt on you, apart from the luggage at the hotel.

Published figures conflict. Indiahikes describes an itinerary with no charge at its checkpoint, while a 2025 Himachal Pradesh Ecotourism Society tender clarification says the Forest Department's trekking fee continues after the ecotourism site is allotted.

That clarification also says the Department will keep monitoring illegal camping. Commercial guides quote their own charges, but a commercial estimate is not the official tariff.
