Sissu Trip from Delhi 2026-27: 2N/3D & 3N/4D Itinerary, Volvo Travel and Complete Budget

Sissu trip from Delhi

Most people plan a Sissu trip from Delhi as a quick three day break. Then the leave maths goes wrong.

A 2N/3D package usually keeps you away from Delhi for four or five calendar days, because you sleep on the bus going up and coming back again. That is the one thing most first timers get wrong, and it decides how much leave you need.

We plan Himachal trips from our base in Shimla. This guide by Travel Coffee shows you how the Volvo setup works, what happens on the Atal Tunnel day, what Sissu really costs, and where winter can break your plan.

Quick Answer: How to Plan a Sissu Trip from Delhi in 2026-27?

Most packages use one simple setup. You take an overnight Volvo from Delhi to Manali, then a sightseeing cab or shared vehicle takes you through Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel to Sissu.

FlixBus now also lists a direct Delhi to Sissu bus. Check the schedule and fare for your exact date, because both change.

Other operators currently sell 2N/3D trips at roughly ₹5,999 to ₹8,499 per person, depending on sharing and inclusions. Read that as a market benchmark, not our fixed price.

In winter, pick 3N/4D. The extra day gives you room if snow or police controls stop the Sissu run on your planned day.

You can compare both formats on our Sissu tour packages page.

>>Not sure whether to choose a 2N/3D or 3N/4D Sissu package? Tell us your available leave dates and we'll help you compare both itineraries.

Is a 2N/3D Sissu Trip from Delhi Actually Practical?

Is a 2N/3D Sissu Trip from Delhi Actually Practical?

Yes, and the overnight bus makes it work. You cover Delhi to Manali at night and Manali to Delhi at night, so your daylight goes to the mountains instead of the highway.

Here is the confusion we see most often. In many 2N/3D packages, the two nights mean hotel nights only.

You also spend one night on the bus going up and one night on the bus coming back. So 2N/3D really means two hotel nights plus two bus nights.

Count your leave on that basis. The words "three days" on a package poster will mislead you.

This plan suits couples, groups of friends and weekend travellers who enjoy an active schedule. It is not a relaxed trip.

You step off one bus, see the mountains for three busy days, and step onto another. If that sounds tiring, it is.

In our experience, the 2N/3D version works best when both Delhi legs run overnight and you keep Sissu as one full, unhurried day.

How Do You Reach Sissu from Delhi in 2026-27?

How Do You Reach Sissu from Delhi in 2026-27?

You have three real options. Take a Volvo to Manali and a cab onward, take a direct bus, or drive.

Most first timers should pick the first one. Here is why.

Delhi to Manali Volvo + Manali to Sissu cab

The overnight coach from Delhi to Manali takes roughly 12 to 14 hours. HPTDC lists daily Volvo or luxury coach connectivity between New Delhi and Manali.

From Manali, Sissu lies about 38 to 41 km away, depending on how you measure the route. In normal conditions, the drive takes around 1 to 2 hours.

This setup stays the easiest because Manali puts the buses, hotels and taxis in one town. If the mountain side changes plans, you still have options around you.

You can compare stays and transfers on our Manali tour packages page.

Direct Delhi to Sissu bus

Older blogs still say no direct bus exists. That is out of date. FlixBus currently lists a Delhi to Sissu service.

The listing shows a minimum journey time of 13 hours 20 minutes, a starting fare of ₹2,059 and 12 daily departures.

Treat those numbers as a snapshot of the current listing. Check your exact date before you plan around them, because fares and timings move.

One insider point: a direct bus helps most if your hotel sits in Sissu. If you plan to sleep in Manali, the Volvo plus cab setup still makes more sense.

Self drive or private cab from Delhi

The road runs from Delhi to Chandigarh, then through Bilaspur and Mandi to Kullu, then on to Manali, the Atal Tunnel and Sissu.

Sources disagree on one exact Delhi to Sissu distance. Plan on roughly 540 to 580 km, depending on where in Delhi you start and the exact road you take.

The plains and highway part moves well. The final mountain stretch moves much slower, so don't plan your day on kilometres alone.

If you drive your own car or hire a private cab, check the e-Aagman requirements before you enter Lahaul and Spiti. We cover the permit confusion in its own section below.

What Does 2N/3D Really Mean in a Delhi to Sissu Package?

Should You Stay Overnight In Sissu In June.jpg

Take a simple example. You leave Delhi on Friday evening and reach Manali on Saturday morning. Saturday becomes Day 1.

Sunday is Day 2, your Sissu day. Monday is Day 3, and you board the return overnight coach that evening.

You reach Delhi on Tuesday morning. That adds up to two hotel nights in Manali and two nights on a bus.

Before you pay, ask the operator one direct question: does this price cover both Volvo journeys? A cheap headline number means little until you know the answer.

Sissu Trip from Delhi 2N/3D Itinerary

How To Reach Sissu From Manali In June.jpg

Night 0: Delhi to Manali by overnight Volvo

Pick an evening departure from Delhi. With roughly 12 to 14 hours on the road, an evening start gets you to Manali in the morning.

Here is a small tip most guides skip: Keep one warm layer, a water bottle, light snacks and your essentials in a small bag at your seat.

Your big bag usually rides in the luggage hold, and you can't reach it until Manali. A night bus cabin can get cold, so that one layer matters.

Day 1: Manali arrival and relaxed local sightseeing

Check in, shower and keep the first day easy. You just spent a night on a bus.

Visit Hadimba Temple first. Then spend the evening on Mall Road or in Old Manali, depending on your energy and the time left.

For an easy first meal, our team likes Café 1947 on the road into Old Manali, beside the Manalsu stream. Order something warm and sit by the window.

Don't squeeze the full Sissu excursion into arrival day. You will start late, feel tired and spend your Sissu time staring at your watch.

If you want adventure on the side, our guide to adventure activities in Manali shows what fits a short trip.

Day 2: Manali to Solang Valley, Atal Tunnel and Sissu

This is the day you came for. Start with Solang Valley, then drive through the Atal Tunnel and on to Sissu.

Timing tip: get on the road soon after sunrise. You beat the day crowd at Solang and save daylight for the Lahaul side, which matters most in winter when days run short.

The Atal Tunnel runs 9.02 km. Its South Portal sits about 25 km from Manali, and its North Portal opens near Teling and Sissu.

You feel the change the moment you exit. The busy Manali side gives way to a wider, starker valley along the Chandra river.

In Sissu, give your time to the valley itself, the Sissu Waterfall viewpoints and the views along the Chandra side. Walk slowly and sit for a while.

One thing to skip on a 2N/3D: don't bolt Rohtang Pass onto this day. Rohtang needs its own separate tourism permit, and fitting it in means rushing Sissu, the place you actually came for.

Be honest with yourself about snow. Fresh snow can shut viewpoints and activities, and we can't promise every spot stays open.

Local police and road instructions always beat a fixed itinerary. If police turn vehicles back, your driver turns back too, and that is the right call.

Drive back to Manali in the evening for your second hotel night.

Day 3: Easy Manali morning and overnight return to Delhi

Keep the morning loose. Walk around, sit in a café, shop a little on Mall Road or just rest before the bus.

Board the evening overnight coach. You normally reach Delhi the following morning.

Sissu Trip from Delhi 3N/4D Itinerary

Sissu Trip from Delhi 3N/4D Itinerary

Night 0: Delhi to Manali

Same logic as the shorter plan. Take an evening Volvo, keep a warm layer at your seat and wake up near Manali.

Day 1: Manali arrival and local sightseeing

Keep it slow after the overnight road journey. Hadimba Temple, a walk through Old Manali and an early night set you up well for the next day.

Day 2: Solang Valley, Atal Tunnel and Sissu

Give Sissu the full day. Don't stack unrelated attractions around it just to fill the schedule.

Cross the Atal Tunnel, and the scenery changes fast. You leave the crowded Manali side behind and enter the open, quieter landscape of Lahaul.

Day 3: Flexible Sissu or Manali buffer day

This day is the whole point of 3N/4D. In stable weather, use it for a slower Lahaul and Sissu experience or for more Manali sightseeing.

In December, January and February, keep this day swappable with Day 2. If snowfall or police restrictions stop the Sissu run on the planned day, your operator can try again here when conditions allow.

Nobody can promise the route reopens the next day. A buffer day simply gives you a second chance instead of none.

Our team recommends keeping the third day flexible in winter. On a customised trip, we sometimes plan one night in Sissu itself, but only after we check the season, road conditions and room availability.

Day 4: Flexible morning and overnight bus to Delhi

Keep the last day light. Pack, eat a proper lunch and board the overnight Volvo back to Delhi.

How Much Does a Sissu Trip from Delhi Cost in 2026-27?

How Much Does a Sissu Trip from Delhi Cost in 2026-27?

Prices swing hard. Your sharing category, Christmas and New Year dates, May and June demand, hotel category, vehicle type and a private or shared cab all move the number.

The figures below come from other operators' current listings. They show you the market, not our rates.

2N/3D current package examples

Quad sharing packages can start at around ₹5,999 per person, while triple sharing may cost ₹6,499 and twin sharing around ₹6,999 for a Manali and Sissu style weekend trip.

Some group trips covering Manali, Sissu and Kasol are listed at around ₹7,999 plus 5 percent GST.

Other Manali and Sissu 2N/3D packages are priced at approximately ₹8,499 per person.

Together, these give you a market range. None of them promises your price on your dates.

Here is a simple money saver. If four friends travel together, quad sharing can cost considerably less per person than twin sharing.

Higher priced 4-day packages

For comparison, Some 4-day Sissu packages are priced around ₹18,400 per adult on quad sharing, ₹18,900 on triple sharing and ₹19,300 on double sharing.

That gap against budget group trips looks huge, and it has real reasons. Operator, transport type, sharing, hotel standard, activities and inclusions all differ.

When you compare two quotes, compare the inclusions line by line. The price alone tells you very little.

Delhi to Manali Volvo cost

One current package operator costs a semi sleeper Volvo seat at ₹1,200 each way off season and ₹1,800 each way in season.

Use that only as a benchmark. Volvo fares vary by operator and date, and not every bus charges this.

Still, the gap shows why timing saves money. On that benchmark, an off season round trip costs ₹1,200 less per person than a peak season one.

Manali to Sissu cab cost

A September 2026 Manali fare chart lists Solang Valley plus Atal Tunnel plus Sissu at roughly ₹3,000 to ₹3,500 per hatchback and ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 per Innova.

Another current route listing sits around ₹4,050, depending on the vehicle you choose.

Remember that these are per vehicle prices, not per person. Divide the fare by your group size only after you check how many passengers and how much luggage that vehicle can legally and comfortably carry.

A warning worth taking seriously: some quotes mix up per vehicle and per person pricing. If a hatchback quote for this route lands far above ₹3,500 for the whole car, ask exactly what you are paying for before you agree.

Hotel budget

One current package calculator uses about ₹900 per person per night off season and ₹1,500 in season for hotel costing.

Current Sissu room listings for an early November 2026 date ranged from about ₹2,400 to ₹5,100 per room for two in the sample we found.

Treat both as market snapshots. Ask for a live quote for your exact dates before you budget.

Extra expenses travellers forget

Budget separately for lunches and snacks, since many packages cover only breakfast and dinner. Adventure activities in Solang cost extra too.

In winter, you may rent snow suits and boots. Add personal shopping and GST if your quote excludes it.

Winter can also bring vehicle requirements that change the cab cost. Road blocks or a changed itinerary can add an extra night or a longer drive.

We don't list prices for these extras here, because they change too much to quote honestly. Keep a cash cushion and you won't feel squeezed.

Which Is Better for Sissu from Delhi: 2N/3D or 3N/4D?

Which Is Better for Sissu from Delhi: 2N/3D or 3N/4D?

Pick 2N/3D if a low budget and a quick weekend getaway matter most. It works, as long as you accept a tiring schedule.

Pick 3N/4D if you travel as a family, as a couple who wants a slower pace, or in winter.

The extra day doesn't exist to cram in more sightseeing. Its real value is the buffer, the second chance at Sissu if weather blocks your first attempt.

Should You Stay in Manali or Sissu?

Should You Stay in Manali or Sissu?

Manali gives you the simplest transport, many more hotels, plenty of cafés and easy Volvo connections to Delhi.

Sissu gives you a quieter stay. You also see the valley outside the busiest day trip hours, when the cars from Manali have gone back.

What we tell our travellers is simple. We usually suggest Manali as the simpler base for a first short Sissu trip, because it keeps every connection easy.

For a customised 3N/4D trip, one Sissu night can make sense when weather and road conditions look stable.

Is Sissu Open in Winter 2026-27?

What Most Tourists Get Wrong About Sissu Stays.jpg

Sissu is a village, so it has no official opening or closing date. People live there all year.

The Atal Tunnel gives Manali and Lahaul all weather connectivity. That still doesn't guarantee tourists an open approach road every hour of winter.

Fresh snowfall, ice, avalanche concerns, snow clearing work or police safety orders can stop or regulate traffic for a while.

On 31 October 2026, the official Lahaul and Spiti district road status listed Delhi to Manali as open and Manali to Keylong as open.

That status tells you nothing about December 2026, January 2027 or any future date. Recheck it on the morning of your Sissu excursion, every time.

Do You Need a Permit or E-Pass for Sissu in 2026-27?

This is where you will find the most confusion online, so read slowly.

The official Himachal Pradesh e-Aagman portal currently states that applicants with vehicles who want to enter District Lahaul and Spiti have to apply for an E-Pass.

The portal also asks for an E-Permit per vehicle for the Atal Tunnel, Rohtang, Koksar and Chandratal circuit, and an E-Ticket per vehicle for other places.

Meanwhile, several tourism websites still say you need no permit just to visit Sissu. These two positions don't match.

So we won't tell you that you need no permit. If you self drive or take a private vehicle, check the live e-Aagman portal just before you leave.

If you book a package, ask your operator whether they handle any vehicle registration, ticket, pass or permit for you. Get the answer in writing.

Don't confuse any of this with the separate Rohtang Pass tourism permit. Our Rohtang Pass in April guide covers that trip on its own.

Atal Tunnel Facts You Should Know Before the Trip

Atal Tunnel Facts You Should Know Before the Trip

The Atal Tunnel is 9.02 km long. It gives all weather connectivity between the Manali side and Lahaul.

Its South Portal sits about 25 km from Manali. Its North Portal comes out near Teling and Sissu.

The tunnel bypasses the old Rohtang Pass route and cut the previous route distance by 46 km. That shortcut is why a Sissu day trip from Manali works at all.

Still, the tunnel doesn't prove you can travel during a snowstorm. The roads leading to it can close even when the tunnel itself stands ready.

What Is the Best Time for a Sissu Trip from Delhi?

What Is the Best Time for a Sissu Trip from Delhi?

May and June feel comfortable for sightseeing, and that is exactly why everyone goes then. Expect higher demand, busier roads and firmer prices.

Our Sissu Valley in May guide shows what that month really looks like on the ground.

September and October give you clearer post monsoon views and fewer of the peak summer crowds. In our experience, travellers who want Sissu without the rush enjoy this window most.

December to February is the snow season and the reason many people book. It also demands the most flexibility of any time of year.

Nobody can guarantee snowfall in Sissu on a specific date. Anyone who promises you snow for your exact weekend is guessing.

If you also want snow on the Rohtang side, read our Rohtang Pass in May guide before you fix your dates.

What Should You Pack for Sissu?

What Should You Pack for Sissu?

In winter, pack proper warm layers, thermals and gloves. The cold on the Lahaul side bites harder than most people from Delhi expect.

Wear walking shoes with good grip. Snow, slush and wet patches near viewpoints turn ordinary sneakers into a problem.

Carry a valid government issued ID and keep it handy. You may need to show it on the way.

Pack your personal medicines and a charged power bank. Sunscreen and sunglasses matter too, because sunlight off snow feels harsh on the eyes.

Keep some cash in small notes. Small stalls and roadside stops may not take cards.

What Should a Manali Sissu Tour Package from Delhi Include?

Before you pay, check whether your quote covers the Delhi to Manali Volvo and the return Volvo. Then confirm the hotel nights and whether breakfast and dinner come with them.

Next, check the Manali and Sissu sightseeing cab. Ask whether the price covers tolls, parking and driver allowance.

Expect some quotes to leave out snow activities, personal expenses and lunches. Some also leave out GST and any emergency or weather related extras.

Ask for the inclusions in writing before you transfer any money. A clear list now saves an argument in Manali later.

A good Sissu trip from Delhi comes down to honest inclusions, an overnight bus each way and one flexible day in winter. When you want a quote for your own dates, WhatsApp us and we will build it around your group.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Sissu from Delhi?

Roughly 540 to 580 km, depending on where in Delhi you start and the exact road you take. Sources disagree on one precise figure. The highway part moves fast, while the final mountain stretch moves much slower, so plan your day around time rather than kilometres.

Is there a direct bus from Delhi to Sissu?

Yes. FlixBus currently lists a Delhi to Sissu service, with a minimum journey time of 13 hours 20 minutes and fares from ₹2,059. Those figures come from the current listing and change with date and availability. Check your exact travel date on FlixBus before you build your plan around it.

How long does Delhi to Sissu take?

On the popular route, you spend roughly 12 to 14 hours on the overnight Volvo to Manali, then 1 to 2 hours on the road to Sissu. Add connections, traffic and weather, and your total movement usually runs 14 to 16 hours or more. Don't plan around an exact arrival time.

Is 2N/3D enough for Sissu from Delhi?

Yes, for a quick trip. It works when both long Delhi legs run overnight and you keep Sissu as one full day excursion from Manali. Expect an active, tiring schedule rather than a restful holiday. If you want breathing room, or you travel in winter, pick the 3N/4D version.

Is 3N/4D better than 2N/3D?

Yes, for a slower trip and especially in winter. The extra day works as a buffer. If snow or police controls stop the Sissu run on your planned day, your operator can try again on the spare day when conditions allow. That second chance matters more than extra sightseeing.

How much does a Sissu trip from Delhi cost?

Other operators' current 2N/3D group packages run roughly ₹5,999 to ₹8,499 per person at the budget end, depending on sharing and inclusions. More inclusive 4-day packages cost much more, with one current listing starting at ₹18,400 per adult. No single price fits everyone, so ask for a live quote.

Can we visit Sissu in December and January?

Yes, when road and police conditions allow. Snow season brings the scenery most people want, and it also brings closures after fresh snowfall. Nobody can guarantee access on a future date. Choose 3N/4D, keep one day flexible and check road status on the morning you travel.

Is Atal Tunnel open in winter?

Engineers built the Atal Tunnel to give all weather connectivity between Manali and Lahaul. Even so, authorities can temporarily restrict traffic on the approach roads after severe snow or for safety. The tunnel doesn't mean you can drive through a snowstorm. Follow police instructions on the day, always.

Is snow guaranteed in Sissu?

No. Nobody can promise fresh snowfall in Sissu on a specific date. December to February is the main snow season, but the weather decides, not your booking. If snow matters a lot to you, keep your dates flexible and treat any snow you get as a bonus.

Do I need an e-pass or permit for Sissu?

The official e-Aagman portal currently says applicants with vehicles entering Lahaul and Spiti must apply for an E-Pass, with E-Permit and E-Ticket categories by route. Some tourism sites say Sissu needs no ordinary permit. Check the official portal right before you travel.

Should I stay in Sissu or Manali?

Stay in Manali for a short trip, because it keeps buses, hotels and cabs simple. Pick a night in Sissu if you want a slower, quieter valley experience after the day crowd leaves. For a first 2N/3D trip, we usually suggest Manali as your base.

Can I do Sissu as a weekend trip from Delhi?

Yes, but it works best as an overnight bus long weekend. Think of it as two hotel nights plus two nights on a bus, not three days away. Leaving Friday evening and getting back Tuesday morning makes a realistic Sissu trip from Delhi on this plan.
