Udaipur Boat Ride Guide 2026: Lake Pichola Price, Timings, Booking, Jetty & Best Sunset Slot

Udaipur14 minutes read
Udaipur Boat Ride

Most people book a udaipur boat ride without knowing there are actually two very different rides on Lake Pichola, and they end up paying for the wrong one or missing the island they came to see.

That is the real problem. One ride lands you at Jag Mandir. The other just circles the lake. They cost different amounts, leave from different points, and confuse almost everyone who searches for prices online.

We plan Udaipur trips every season, and this guide by Travel Coffee sorts out the mess so you know exactly which ride to buy, what to pay, when to go, and where to board.

Quick Answer: Which Udaipur Boat Ride Should You Book?

If landing at Jag Mandir matters to you, book the HRH Jagmandir Island Palace Excursion from Rameshwar Ghat beside the City Palace. That is the ride that actually stops at the island.

If you only want a cheaper lake circuit and do not need to step onto Jag Mandir, ask about the separate municipal Lake Pichola boat ride

Recent travellers report the municipal Lake Pichola boat ride at around ₹180, but fares can change, so confirm the current price and whether the ride includes a Jag Mandir stop at the ticket counter before booking.

Here is the honest bit on price

The last official HRH tariff we found was labelled effective only until 31 March 2026, so it is not the confirmed August 2026 fare. Check the current counter price before you pay.

And do not assume 5 PM is sunset. Plan your ride around the actual sunset on your travel date, which shifts a lot through the year.

Want the whole trip handled? Look at our Udaipur tour packages where the ride is already sorted.

Which Lake Pichola Boat Ride Should You Choose?

Is Jaisamand Lake a good relaxed day trip from Udaipur.jpg

This single decision fixes most of the confusion. Get it right and the rest of your planning falls into place.

City Palace, Rameshwar Ghat or Bansi Ghat Ride

This is the ride you want if Jag Mandir is on your list. HRH runs it as the Jagmandir Island Palace Excursion, and it leaves from Rameshwar Ghat, also called Bansi Ghat, beside the City Palace area.

HRH describes the route as passing the City Palace lake facade, the old ghats and havelis, Mohan Mandir, Arsi Vilas, Jag Mandir, Jag Niwas (now the Lake Palace) and views out towards Sajjangarh.

The point for you is simple. This is the ride built around getting off at the island, not just looking at it.

Municipal Lake Pichola Boat Ride

Recent local traveller discussions point to a separate, lower-cost municipal sightseeing ride on the same lake. People often mention a fare of around ₹180 for the municipal sightseeing ride, but prices can change, so confirm the current fare at the ticket counter before booking.

Here is what most tourists get wrong about this one. They assume any ride called a Lake Pichola boat ride stops at Jag Mandir. Traveller reports suggest the cheaper municipal ride usually circles or passes the island without letting you off. Confirm this before paying.

Which one is better for a first-time visitor?

If Jag Mandir is a priority, take the City Palace or Rameshwar Ghat excursion. There is no cheaper shortcut that reliably lands you on the island.

If you mainly want an inexpensive spin on the water and do not care about island access, check the municipal ride. Just go in knowing what it does and does not include.

For a closer look at the island itself, read our Jag Mandir Udaipur guide before you decide.

What Is the Lake Pichola Boat Ride Price in 2026?

10 Best Day Trips from Udaipur in 2026_ Distance, Drive Time & Who Each Suits.jpg

We are going to be fully honest here because the prices online genuinely conflict, and pretending otherwise would not help you.

The official HRH Jagmandir Island Palace Excursion page displays these fares: ₹600 regular adult, ₹300 regular child, ₹800 sunset adult and ₹450 sunset child.

But those prices are labelled effective from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026. That period has expired. So these are the last official HRH prices we found during research, not the confirmed August 2026 fare.

The current HRH counter price for August 2026 is not clearly published, so confirm the latest fare directly at the booking counter before paying.

Now it gets messier. A third party Udaipur tourism page updated in April 2026 quotes ₹400 adult and ₹200 child for daytime, and ₹700 adult and ₹400 child for sunset.

Our own current Jag Mandir page describes the HRH ride more cautiously as roughly ₹500 to ₹600 regular and around ₹900 to ₹1,000 or more for sunset.

These numbers do not match, and we would rather explain the conflict than pick a convenient one.

Different operators, boarding points, routes and whether Jag Mandir access is included are exactly why two travellers report wildly different "Lake Pichola boat ride prices."

The commonly mentioned ₹180 municipal fare comes from traveller reports rather than an official tariff, so treat it only as an indicative figure and confirm the current rate locally.

Local money saving tip

The daytime ride is cheaper than the sunset one across every source. If your budget is tight and you can visit late morning, you keep more cash for the rest of Udaipur.

What Are the Udaipur Boat Ride Timings?

15 Hidden Places in Udaipur Beyond the Usual Tourist Circuit (2026).jpg

The HRH page shows a seasonal timetable next to its expired tariff. It lists summer regular service until 3 PM and sunset service until 6 PM, and winter regular service until 2 PM and sunset service until 5 PM.

Because the published HRH timetable is tied to an expired tariff period, confirm the current operating schedule and last boat departure directly at the jetty before planning your visit.

Other travel listings show wider windows, roughly 9 or 10 AM until 5, 6 or 7 PM, depending on operator and season.

Here is a distinction that trips people up

Lake Pichola visiting hours, the boating point opening hours, and the last actual boat departure are not the same thing. The gate may be open long after the final boat has left.

Confirm the final departure at your jetty on your travel date. That one question saves a wasted evening.

What Is the Best Lake Pichola Sunset Boat Ride Slot?

Sunset view over Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur.jpg

This is the section to read twice, because the internet gives you bad advice here constantly.

Do not take a 5 PM boat just because a blog said so. Udaipur's sunset moves a lot. In 2026 the earliest is around 5:47 PM and the latest is around 7:29 PM. A 5 PM ride in June puts you back on shore hours before the light turns.

Check the sunset for your exact date first. Then, as a planning rule, aim to board roughly 30 to 45 minutes before the actual sunset, adjusted to that day's boat schedule.

On peak dates, reach the counter around 45 to 60 minutes before your desired departure. The queue and boarding can eat the best light before you even reach the water.

The timing mistake we see most

People arrive at the literal sunset minute. By the time you buy the ticket, queue, board and move onto the lake, the colour is gone. Turning up early is the whole game.

For picking the right season overall, our best time to visit Udaipur guide helps you line up weather with sunset.

Where Is the Lake Pichola Boat Jetty?

Scenic boat ride on Fateh Sagar Lake Udaipur.jpg

Knowing the correct boarding point matters more than most people realise, because the wrong jetty gives you the wrong ride.

Rameshwar Ghat or Bansi Ghat beside City Palace

HRH names Rameshwar Ghat (also called the Rameshwar Jetty) as its excursion boarding point. Our current Jag Mandir guide also describes the official HRH ride as leaving from Rameshwar Ghat, also known as Bansi Ghat, beside the City Palace area.

If Jag Mandir island access is your goal, this is the boarding point to investigate first.

Municipal boating point

There is a separately mapped Lake Pichola Municipal Boat Ride Point in the Pichola area. Do not confuse its lake circuit with the HRH Jag Mandir excursion. Different point, different ride, different expectations.

Do you need a full City Palace Museum ticket to reach the jetty?

Recent traveller reports mention a lower-cost complex-access ticket of around ₹50 that may allow access to the jetty, but this is not clearly confirmed on a current official ticket page. Check the applicable ticket and jetty-access rules at the counter before purchasing.

How Do You Book a Udaipur Boat Ride?

Fateh Sagar Lake in Udaipur surrounded by Aravalli Hills.jpg

You have three realistic routes, and none of them require overthinking.

The simplest is walking up to the correct counter and buying the available ride on the spot. This works fine on quiet mornings and off-peak days.

The second is booking through an activity or tour provider who arranges the ticket for you.

The third is booking a Travel Coffee Udaipur package where the lake ride is already included and coordinated in advance, so you skip the guesswork about which ride is which.

We will not pretend there is one universal official online booking portal for Lake Pichola, because we could not verify one. For busy sunset periods, weekends and holidays, just build extra time into your plan.

Does the Lake Pichola Boat Ride Stop at Jag Mandir?

Tourists exploring Jag Mandir Palace on Lake Pichola.jpg

Let us answer this cleanly, because it is the query that causes the most disappointment.

Not every product sold as a "Lake Pichola boat ride" is the same ride. That is the core issue.

Our current Jag Mandir information describes the official HRH Rameshwar Ghat ride as stopping at Jag Mandir, so passengers get off, explore the island, and catch a return boat. HRH itself sells the whole thing as a Jagmandir Island Palace Excursion.

Separately, travellers describe cheaper municipal or general Pichola rides that circle the lake without a Jag Mandir landing.

So before you pay, ask one exact question: "Does this ticket include getting off at Jag Mandir?" Do not assume the island is part of the deal. When we brief our travellers, this is the single line we tell them to say at the counter.

What Will You See on the Lake Pichola Boat Route?

Historic entrance of Bagore Ki Haveli Udaipur.jpg

The HRH route gives you the postcard version of Udaipur from water level, which honestly beats the view from land.

You get the City Palace facade rising straight out of the lake, the old ghats and the Bagore Ki Haveli area, then Mohan Mandir and Arsi Vilas along the way.

You pass the exterior of Jag Niwas, now the Taj Lake Palace, sitting on the water like it is floating. Then Jag Mandir itself.

On a clear day you can also spot Sajjangarh, the Monsoon Palace, up on the hill in the distance.

That is enough sightseeing detail. You came to ride the boat, not sit through a history lecture.

How Long Does the Lake Pichola Boat Ride Take?

Bagore Ki Haveli beside Lake Pichola in Udaipur.jpg

There is no single answer, so ignore anyone who gives you one flat number.

Current travel listings describe cruises lasting roughly 30 minutes to 1 hour. A Jag Mandir experience runs longer once you add island time.

We suggest keeping about 30 to 45 minutes for Jag Mandir itself if you want to actually walk around rather than rush.

Your real total depends on the route, the operator, waiting time at the jetty and whether you stop at the island. Plan loose rather than tight.

How Bad Are the Sunset Queues?

Sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola in Udaipur.jpg

Late afternoon and sunset are the premium slots, which means everyone wants them at once.

During busy periods, reach the boarding area 30 to 60 minutes before your intended departure. Winter weekends, holidays and long weekends deserve even more buffer.

Here is a useful data point

A Tripadvisor traveller visiting in February 2026 reported basically no queue around 11 AM and found the daytime ticket cheaper too. Treat that as one example of why mornings can be easier, not a guaranteed pattern.

But it lines up with what we see: skip the sunset crush, take a calm late-morning boat, save money and time.

What Happens If It Rains or the Boat Ride Is Cancelled?

Saheliyon Ki Bari garden in Udaipur Rajasthan.jpg

Monsoon turns Udaipur green and dramatic, but it also makes boating less predictable, and that is the honest trade-off.

Our current Jag Mandir guide notes that boats can be cancelled during heavy rain. Our Udaipur package also states that activities stay subject to weather, water levels, operating schedules, ticket availability and local authority instructions.

For a Travel Coffee included activity, the process is to first try to reschedule the ride within your trip. If that cannot happen, the applicable activity component is refunded or adjusted with your approval, subject to the supplier's policy on tickets already issued.

We will not promise that Lake Pichola boats always run through the monsoon. They do not, and you should plan a flexible day if you travel in the rain.

Is the Udaipur Boat Ride Included in a Travel Coffee Package?

Jag Mandir Udaipur illuminated during the evening.jpg

Yes, and this is the version many of our travellers prefer because the ride is sorted before they arrive.

Our live Udaipur Tour With Lake Pichola Boat Ride and Bagore Ki Haveli package runs 3 days and 2 nights. It includes a late afternoon or golden hour shared Lake Pichola boat ride, coordinated in advance.

It also includes the Bagore Ki Haveli Dharohar evening folk show ticket, which pairs neatly with a sunset ride.

The current itinerary slots the boat ride roughly between 4:30 PM and 5:45 PM, but that is our package schedule, not a universal Lake Pichola operating time.

The page also states that stepping onto Jag Mandir is included only when your confirmed voucher specifically lists it.

At the time of writing, the package is displayed from ₹9,999 per person, but package prices can change with travel dates, hotel availability and other booking factors, so check the live package page for the current price before publishing or booking.

Can You Combine the Boat Ride With City Palace and Bagore Ki Haveli?

Jag Mandir Palace on Lake Pichola in Udaipur.jpg

Yes, and the trick is keeping your day geographically compact so you are not sprinting across Udaipur.

Our live package puts the lake ride in late afternoon, then the old city, then the Dharohar show in the evening.

The sequence we recommend: do City Palace earlier in the day, take the boat later as the light softens, and finish with Bagore Ki Haveli in the evening. All three sit close together, so you walk more and drive less.

Practical Tips for Families, Couples and Senior Travellers

Grand entrance of Jag Mandir Palace Udaipur.jpg

Boarding a boat means steps and movement at the jetty, so plan around that.

Our current Jag Mandir page warns that boat boarding can be difficult for travellers with mobility issues. We do not call these boats wheelchair accessible, because they are not.

For families, keep children seated and follow the crew's life jacket and safety instructions. It is a lake, and the crew's rules exist for a reason.

For couples and photographers, take the golden hour ride when it is running. But we will be straight with you: on a busy weekend, a quiet morning boat can beat a packed sunset one.

On one February trip our team took the 11 AM boat, had the deck nearly to ourselves, and got cleaner photos than any sunset scrum would allow.

Which Ride Should You Actually Pick?

It comes down to one question. If Jag Mandir is the point of your udaipur boat ride, book the HRH Rameshwar Ghat excursion and confirm the island landing before you pay.

If budget matters more than the island, check the municipal ride and accept that it likely just circles the lake.

Whatever you choose, verify the current counter price, plan around your date's real sunset, and reach the jetty early. Get those three right and Lake Pichola gives you the best evening of your Udaipur trip.
