Yulla Kanda Trek in November 2026: Is It Open and Should You Go?

November brings much colder and less predictable conditions to Yulla Kanda, making the trek very different from the main trekking season. Snowfall, frozen sections of the trail and changing local access conditions can all affect whether the trek is practical during this month.
This guide by Travel Coffee explains the expected weather, trail conditions, possible access limitations and important planning considerations.
It will help you understand whether the trek may be open in November and whether travelling at this time is suitable for your plans.
Quick Answer: Is the Yulla Kanda Trek Open in November 2026?
The Yulla Kanda trek in November 2026 has no guaranteed opening. Nobody can promise that the road, trail, camp and temple will all work on your chosen date.
Some early November departures may run if local road, trail, weather and campsite conditions allow it.
A November date on an operator's website, including ours, is a conditional plan. It does not prove the trek is open.
If this is your first high altitude trek, pick the regular season. If you have trekking experience and still want November, confirm conditions close to departure and keep a cancel or postpone plan ready.
What Most Travellers Get Wrong About a November Yulla Kanda Trip

Most people check one thing: is the Kinnaur highway open? That answers only the first of three questions.
The second question is whether you can reach Yulla Khas, the village where the walk starts. The third is whether the trail, the camp and the temple can actually support you on that day.
All three can give different answers in November. You can drive through Kinnaur without trouble and still find the upper trail icy, or the camp shut for the season.
In our experience planning Himachal trips, the road check matters just as much as the trek date. We ask all three questions for every late season enquiry, and we suggest you do the same.
Where Is Yulla Kanda and Why Is the Krishna Temple Special?

The Sacred Lake and Lord Krishna Temple at 3,895 Metres
Yulla Kanda lies in the Rora Valley of Kinnaur district, in the Nichar area of Himachal Pradesh.
You start the walk from Yulla Khas, which locals also call Yulla village. From there, the trail climbs to a high lake with a Krishna Temple beside it.
The lake and temple sit at about 3,895 metres (12,778 feet). That height matters more in November than it does in September, and we explain why below.
Many people believe this is the world's highest Lord Krishna Temple. Nobody has independently certified that record, so treat it as a popular belief rather than a proven fact.
For local families, this is a place of faith first and a trek second. The temple draws pilgrims for Janmashtami, and local tradition ties the site to Lord Krishna.
You will also hear stories linking the lake to the Pandavas. These belong to local tradition. Enjoy them as the community tells them, but they are not documented archaeological history.
If you want to combine Yulla Kanda with time elsewhere in the district, you can explore Kinnaur tour packages built around safer lower roads.
Is Yulla Kanda Trek Open in November 2026?

The honest answer: it depends on what the weather and the ground look like on your dates. No single source decides it for everyone.
Trek operators disagree here. One operator calls November to April the closed winter season. Another says prepared trekkers may manage it until mid November. A third lists November as possible despite very cold conditions.
These are company opinions. None of them is an official government notice.
Is the First Week of November Possible?
Sometimes, yes. Our own website advertises November 2026 departures, and every one depends on trail, road, campsite and weather conditions.
An early November attempt makes sense only after someone on the ground confirms those conditions. One good day in late October does not make every day in the first week of November safe.
What we tell our travellers is simple: treat an early November booking as a plan with a question mark, not a promise.
What Changes by Mid and Late November?
As November moves on, winter gets a stronger grip on the higher trail. Snowfall becomes more likely, ice can stay on shaded sections, and nights at camp turn harshly cold.
Services also thin out. A camp that ran in October may pack up, and you lose your margin if a storm delays you on the mountain.
Three different things can stop a trek. An official closure order is one. A trekking company's seasonal policy is another. A trail that weather has made unsafe is the third, and it needs no notice to stop you.
Our research found no independently confirmed, date specific guarantee that the trail will open on any November 2026 date. Late November normally leaves much less room for a safe, conventional trek.
You can check the Yulla Kanda trek package and available dates, but please read every November date there as conditional.
November departures for the Yulla Kanda Trek depend on weather conditions, trail accessibility, campsite availability and local safety assessments.
Travellers should contact Travel Coffee to confirm available departure dates and trekking arrangements before booking, as scheduled trips may be modified or cancelled due to snowfall or unsafe conditions.
If you already have dates in mind, send them to us. We will check local conditions and tell you honestly whether a departure looks realistic.
What Is Yulla Kanda Weather Like in November?

What Do Official November Temperature Records Show?
The best official reference for this area comes from the India Meteorological Department's 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Kalpa, a weather station in Kinnaur.
In November, Kalpa averages a daily maximum of 14.4°C and a daily minimum of 1.2°C.
Kalpa also records 27.9 mm of precipitation in an average November, spread over about 1.8 rainy days.
Here is the insider point most guides miss: these are Kalpa station averages. They do not measure Yulla Kanda Lake, and they do not forecast November 2026.
The lake sits higher and in more exposed ground than a town weather station. Wind, shade and height can make conditions on the trail very different from those numbers.
Exact November temperatures at Yulla Kanda Lake can vary significantly due to altitude, wind, snowfall and changing weather conditions.
Travellers should use Kalpa's historical temperature records only as a general reference and check updated weather forecasts and local conditions before planning their trek.
Does It Snow at Yulla Kanda in November?
Early winter snow can fall in November. Nobody can tell you when, or how much, for a specific date.
We cannot promise snow views in the first week of November, and we cannot promise a frozen lake either. Anyone who guarantees either is guessing.
What snow means for planning is practical. You may meet icy patches, strong wind, poor visibility and long cold hours, and any of them can slow your group down.
A slower group on a short November day means less daylight to get back to camp. That is the real risk, more than the snow itself.
How Do You Reach Yulla Kanda from Shimla in November?

Shimla to Yulla Khas via Narkanda, Rampur and Tapri
The usual drive starts in Shimla and climbs through Narkanda, then drops towards Rampur and follows the road into Kinnaur towards Tapri.
From the Tapri side, a local road takes you up through the Urni area towards Yulla Khas. The trail begins in the village.
Our itinerary allows about 8 to 10 hours for this mountain drive from Shimla. That is a planning estimate, not a guaranteed arrival time.
The road distance from Shimla to Yulla Khas may vary depending on the route and any diversions in place. Travellers should allow approximately 8 to 10 hours for the journey and confirm current road conditions before departure, especially during November.
Our tip for this drive: start early from Shimla so you reach the village before dark. Mountain roads after sunset in November add risk you do not need.
Can You Reach Yulla Khas by HRTC Bus and Taxi?
Yes, you can try. HRTC runs buses on the Shimla and Kinnaur routes, and you can ride towards Tapri and then arrange local transport up to the trailhead.
HRTC bus schedules between Shimla and Kinnaur may change due to weather, road conditions and seasonal service adjustments. Travellers should confirm the latest departure times, routes and bus availability directly with HRTC before travelling.
You can reach HRTC at the Shimla ISBT enquiry number 0177-2657326 and the Reckong Peo enquiry number 01786-222444.
The weak link is usually the last stretch from Tapri to Yulla Khas. Arrange it before you reach Tapri, not after you get off the bus in the cold.
If you plan to spend a few days in Shimla before or after the trek, our Shimla tour packages can cover that part of the trip.
How Can NH-05 Road Closures Affect Your Trip?
The Kinnaur highway, NH-05, can shut without much warning. The Tribune reported a blockage near Tapri and Maling Nala on 27 September 2026, caused by mudflow and falling stones.
District Kinnaur also issued temporary traffic restrictions in August and September 2026, including a Nathpa notice dated 5 September 2026.
These were dated events. They do not tell you the highway is blocked today, and you should not reuse those old restriction timings for a November trip.
Check the latest district notifications and speak to local transport operators before you leave Shimla. Our Kinnaur road and weather planning guide explains how these restrictions usually work.
Can You Reach Yulla Kanda Lake and the Krishna Temple in November?

Does an Open Road Mean an Open Trekking Trail?
No. Reaching Yulla Khas village and reaching Yulla Kanda Lake are two separate achievements.
You might drive to the village easily and still find that nobody can safely take you higher. The trail can carry snow or ice even when the road below looks dry.
The reverse also holds. A walkable trail does not mean a camp is running, or that temple facilities are open.
Access to the lake and temple depends on snow, trail condition, local instructions, campsite availability and the trek leader's judgement on the day.
Sometimes the right decision is to turn around before you reach the temple. That feels disappointing, but it is the responsible call when conditions turn.
Nobody can promise temple darshan on every November departure. If a booking guarantees it, ask how they can know that in advance.
How Difficult Is the Yulla Kanda Trek in November?

Yulla Kanda Trek Distance and Walking Conditions
Published guides put the walk at about 11 to 13 km one way from the starting area. The exact figure changes with the route and where your vehicle drops you.
We describe it as about 12 km one way on our package page. A full return usually comes to around 22 to 26 km.
Treat these as guide estimates. Nobody has published a formally surveyed trail distance.
The climb stays steady almost all the way. You walk village paths first, then wooded sections, then open meadows, and finally a steeper push to the lake.
In good conditions, most guides call this a moderate trek. Snow or ice can turn that same walk into a much harder day.
Does Altitude Make November Trekking Harder?
Yes. At about 3,895 metres, altitude illness becomes a real concern, especially if you climb quickly from lower places.
Watch for headache, nausea, dizziness and tiredness that feels unusual. Take these signs seriously, even if you feel fit.
The CDC's travel health guidance is clear. Do not keep climbing to sleep higher while you have altitude illness symptoms, and go down if symptoms get worse despite rest or treatment.
Give your body time to adjust, drink enough water, and talk to a doctor before the trip if you have heart, lung or other relevant health conditions.
We do not suggest medicines or a fixed acclimatisation schedule here. Your doctor should make that call for you.
Is Yulla Kanda Safe for Beginners, Solo Travellers and Families?

Who Should Consider a November Attempt?
A physically prepared beginner can handle Yulla Kanda more comfortably in the regular season. A possibly icy November trail asks for more.
November suits trekkers who already know long uphill days and cold nights, who travel with proper local support, and who have confirmed conditions for their date.
A local trek team helps because they know the trail, they hear about weather changes early, and they know when to turn back. That support makes the trip better planned.
Our team recommends checking the trail and campsite before you make any non refundable booking. That single step saves most November trips from going wrong.
Who Should Postpone?
Postpone if snow is falling, if the trail is icy or unsafe, if the road is blocked, or if nobody local can confirm a workable route.
Children, inexperienced trekkers and anyone uncomfortable with long climbs or cold camping should not treat November as a sightseeing outing.
A guide cannot make an unsafe trail safe. A good guide will simply tell you not to go.
Solo travel here carries its own problem. Mobile signal is patchy on parts of the route, and help can take time to reach remote sections. Going alone in November leaves you with very little backup.
What Should You Pack for Yulla Kanda in November?

Clothing, Footwear and Essential Gear
Pack thermal inner layers for top and bottom. Add an insulated jacket and a windproof, waterproof outer shell over everything.
Bring warm gloves and a warm cap. Your hands and ears go first in mountain wind.
Wear proper trekking shoes with good grip. Village paths and meadow slopes get slippery fast when frost sets in.
Carry a headlamp and spare power. Phones drain quickly in cold weather, and a dead phone cannot hold your offline map.
Pack enough drinking water, food and your personal medicines. Download offline maps and keep emergency contact numbers written on paper too.
Here is one expense to skip: do not rush out and buy specialised snow or traction gear before your trip. Whether you need it depends on actual trail conditions, so ask your trek leader first.
A small comfort tip: ask your Yulla Khas homestay hosts to fill your flask with hot chai before the morning start. A hot sip at the halfway break helps more than you expect in November.
What Should You Do If Snow or Bad Weather Begins?
Keep the group together. In poor visibility, people separate easily on open meadow sections.
Talk to your trek leader as soon as you notice a change. Turning back early always beats turning back late.
Avoid shortcuts, and never trek after dark. Both mistakes cause more trouble on mountains than bad luck does.
Do not push towards the temple just because it looks close. In bad weather, the last stretch is often the hardest part to come back down.
Do You Need Permits, a Local Guide or Camping Permission for Yulla Kanda?

Our published guidance says Indian travellers do not need a special permit for the standard Yulla Kanda route.
Before travelling, check with local authorities or your accommodation provider whether any forest, campsite or temple permissions are required.
There are no confirmed separate fees for these arrangements, so it is best to check locally for the latest requirements and any applicable charges.
For foreign travellers, the official District Kinnaur website lists permit rules for certain notified protected areas in upper Kinnaur.
Where those permits apply, the district lists an Inner Line Permit fee of ₹200 per person, plus any agency service charge.
Warning: that ₹200 is not a Yulla Kanda entry fee. If anyone asks you to pay a "Yulla Kanda entry permit" on the trail, ask for an official receipt and confirm with the district first.
Not every foreign visitor automatically needs a ₹200 permit for this trek. Rules for other pilgrimages, such as Kinnaur Kailash, also do not apply to this route.
A local guide becomes far more useful in snow or poor visibility. They know where the path runs when frost or fog hides it.
Confirm camp operation and overnight arrangements for your actual date. Do not assume the regular season priest, camp or tea stalls will be there in November.
How Much Does the Yulla Kanda Trek in November 2026 Cost?

Travel Coffee's Advertised Package Prices
Our package page advertised ₹7,499 per person on triple sharing for the Delhi or Chandigarh options.
The same page showed ₹8,999 per person for double sharing on those options.
The Shimla start option costs ₹1,000 less than the matching Delhi or Chandigarh price.
Here is a simple money saving tip: if you can reach Shimla on your own, take the Shimla start option and keep that ₹1,000 for your own meals and snacks on the trip.
These are advertised website prices. Reconfirm them and get a written quote before paying, because we cannot promise those rates for every November departure.
Which Additional Expenses Should You Budget For?
The package plans one night at a village homestay and one night at an alpine camp.
The current page leaves out lunches, snacks, drinks, travel insurance, personal porter or mule help, and extra costs that weather can cause.
Meal inclusions have varied across different versions of the package page, so ask for an updated itinerary confirming the exact number of included meals before booking.
Ask one question before you pay anything: what happens if bad weather stops the group before the lake?
We have not included separate rates for independent trekking, homestays, taxis, porters or camping, as these costs can vary depending on the season, service provider and arrangements you choose. Request current prices directly from local providers before finalising your budget.
What Is a Practical November Yulla Kanda Itinerary?

Three Days from Shimla
On day one, you drive from Shimla through Narkanda and Rampur, then take the Kinnaur approach up to Yulla Khas. You spend the night at the village homestay.
On day two, you start the trek with the local team, but only if conditions allow it. The group walks to the campsite, continues to the lake and Krishna Temple when safe, and returns to camp for the night.
On day three, you walk down to Yulla Khas and drive back towards Shimla.
This is a proposed plan, not a guaranteed November trek. Weather on the day decides how much of it happens.
Five Calendar Days from Delhi
The Delhi option normally adds overnight transport from Delhi to Shimla at the start and overnight transport back at the end.
The mountain part still runs three days and two nights. With the travel nights added, the Delhi package covers five calendar days and four nights.
Expect a long journey on both ends. Departure and arrival times may vary depending on your travel date, road conditions and transport arrangements, so confirm the latest schedule with the travel operator before booking.
What If the Lake Trek Gets Cancelled After You Arrive?
This can happen in November. Weather, unsafe trail conditions or a closed campsite can force the operator to change or cancel the mountain part of the trip.
Reaching Yulla Khas does not count as visiting the lake. Know what refund or alternative plan applies before you pay, not after you reach the village.
If you want to talk through your November dates, the local weather picture, what the package includes and how cancellations work, message us before you book.
Should You Visit Yulla Kanda in November or Choose Another Month?

November Versus September and October
Several operators point to roughly May to October as the regular trekking window. September and early October usually give the most dependable conditions.
Those months do not guarantee good weather either. They simply give you a better chance of a normal trek with the camp running.
November gives a narrower window that depends heavily on weather. Some trekkers get a good early November day, and some arrive to find the trail shut.
Ask yourself which traveller you are. If you want the normal temple trek, go in the regular season. If you can accept a late season cancellation calmly, November may still work for you.
What Are Safer Backup Plans If the Trail Closes?
The simplest backup is to postpone the trek to a better season. The temple will still be there next September.
If you are already in Kinnaur, you can switch to a flexible, lower altitude sightseeing plan, as long as you confirm roads, stays and local conditions first.
Do not assume another high altitude trek is automatically open or safe in November. Apply the same checks to every alternative.
If you are comparing November mountain trips, our Spiti Valley in November planning guide explains what that season looks like there, though it does not mean every Spiti road or sight stays open.
How Can You Check Yulla Kanda's Latest November 2026 Status?

Start with the District Kinnaur notifications page for current traffic restrictions on NH-05.
Then read the latest IMD Shimla forecasts and any Kinnaur district weather warnings.
Official pages cover the highway and the weather. They cannot tell you whether the camp is running or whether the upper trail has ice.
For that, you need local confirmation from the trailhead, the campsite and your trek operator.
Timing changes everything here. Check conditions a few days before departure, again the evening before, and once more before you set off.
Ask four direct questions: can the road to Yulla Khas, the trekking route, the planned camp and temple access all work on your date?
Keep a buffer day, agree a cancellation plan in writing, and agree a turnaround time with your trek leader before the walk starts.
In an emergency, Kinnaur's district disaster helpline is 1077, and the district disaster control room is 01786-223151. Save both numbers before you lose signal.
Our verdict: the Yulla Kanda trek in November 2026 can work in early November for prepared trekkers with confirmed local conditions. For most first timers, September or early October remains the smarter choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Yulla Kanda Trek open in November 2026?
It depends on conditions. Some early November departures may run if the road, trail, campsite and weather allow it, but nobody has confirmed a guaranteed opening for any November 2026 date. Check close to departure and keep a backup plan.
Is the first week of November suitable for Yulla Kanda?
It can be, if local conditions support it. Early November leaves more margin than late November, but one good day does not make every day safe. Reconfirm road, trail and camp status a few days before you go, the evening before, and that morning.
Does it snow at Yulla Kanda in November?
Early winter snow can fall, but nobody can predict the date or amount. Do not book expecting fresh snow or a frozen lake. Plan instead for possible ice, wind and poor visibility, all of which slow a group down.
Is Yulla Kanda Krishna Temple open in November?
The temple stands there all year, but reaching it is a separate question. Snow, trail condition and local instructions decide whether you can walk up safely. Do not assume the regular season priest or facilities will be present on November dates.
Can beginners attempt the Yulla Kanda Trek in November?
Fit beginners usually manage this trek well in the regular season. November is different, because ice and cold make the same climb much harder. If you are new to trekking, choose September or early October instead.
How difficult is the Yulla Kanda Trek?
Most guides call it moderate in good conditions. You climb steadily through village paths, woods and meadows, then face a steeper final push to a lake at about 3,895 metres. Altitude and November snow can make it far tougher.
What is the trekking distance from Yulla Khas to the lake?
Published guides put it at about 11 to 13 km one way, depending on route and roadhead. We describe it as about 12 km one way. A full return usually comes to around 22 to 26 km, though no one has formally surveyed the trail.
Can I travel from Shimla or Delhi to Yulla Kanda by bus?
You can take an HRTC bus towards Tapri and arrange local transport up to Yulla Khas. Bus schedules may change during November due to weather and road conditions, so check the latest timings with HRTC Shimla ISBT on 0177-2657326 or Reckong Peo on 01786-222444, and arrange your final transfer before arriving.
Do Indian or foreign travellers need a permit for Yulla Kanda?
Our guidance says Indian travellers need no special permit for the standard route. Foreign travellers may need a permit for certain notified areas of upper Kinnaur, at ₹200 per person where it applies. That is not a Yulla Kanda entry fee.
Are camping facilities available at Yulla Kanda in November?
Nobody can guarantee it without direct confirmation for your date. Camps that run in the regular season may close as winter arrives. Ask your operator in writing whether the camp will operate before you pay anything non refundable.
Can solo travellers attempt Yulla Kanda without a guide?
We do not recommend it in November. Mobile signal is patchy on parts of the route, help can take time to arrive, and snow or fog can hide the path. A local guide knows the trail and knows when to turn back.
How much does a Yulla Kanda Trek package cost in 2026?
On 9 October 2026, our page advertised ₹7,499 per person on triple sharing and ₹8,999 on double sharing for Delhi or Chandigarh options. The Shimla start option costs ₹1,000 less. Get an updated written quote before booking.
