- Best Season
- Autumn, around late September to October, when the trail and campsite are open. Access depends on current snow, road and weather conditions, and the trail usually closes with early winter snow.
- Ideal For
- Active travellers comfortable with sustained uphill walking, cold conditions, and simple mountain stays.
Know Before You Go
- This is a high altitude trek. Be prepared for long uphill stretches and discuss your suitability with Travel Coffee before booking.
- Late October can bring cold conditions and changing trail access. Operation depends on a fresh local assessment, and clear weather, snow free trails and temple access cannot be promised.
- Pack warm layers, a waterproof outer layer, gloves, a warm cap, trekking shoes with good grip, a headlamp, reusable water bottles and personal essentials.
- Confirm the sleeping bag or blanket, sleeping mat and other camp equipment included in your quote before deciding what to carry.
- Carry your overnight trekking backpack to camp unless you have separately arranged luggage assistance. A smaller daypack is used for the outing beyond camp.
- Arrange lunch for the main trekking day before leaving the village. Do not depend on finding an open cafe along the trail.
- Report headache, nausea, dizziness or feeling unwell at altitude to the trek team. Do not continue higher while unwell. Worsening symptoms or serious signs such as breathlessness at rest, confusion or poor balance need urgent medical help and descent when possible.
- The return day combines a descent and a long drive. Avoid tight onward flight, train or bus connections.
- Respect local customs around the lake and temple, and carry your litter back.
- The team may adjust the route or turnaround point because of weather, trail conditions or the group's progress.
- Highest planned point is around 3,895 metres at the lake and temple. This is not the campsite's confirmed sleeping altitude.
- The village to lake route is commonly described as around 12 km one way. The actual distance depends on the roadhead and route, and it is not a 12 km round trip. Difficulty is moderate, with a demanding ascent day in this compact itinerary.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Yulla Kanda?
Yulla Kanda is in the Rora Valley of Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. The trek starts from Yulla Khas village, also called Yulla village, and climbs to a high altitude lake and Krishna temple at around 3,895 metres.
Can I join the Yulla Kanda trek from Delhi, Chandigarh or Shimla?
Yes. Choose the start and end point that suits your journey. The Delhi option includes return Volvo travel via Shimla. The Shimla option begins and ends in Shimla. Chandigarh transport details are confirmed with your quote.
What vehicle will we travel in?
Delhi travellers travel to Shimla and back by overnight Volvo, with a Tempo Traveller arranged on some peak dates so the group travels together. In the mountains, between Shimla and Yulla Khas, the group travels by a shared SUV, Sedan or Tempo Traveller depending on the batch size.
How much does the Yulla Kanda trek package cost?
The Delhi to Delhi and Chandigarh to Chandigarh options are Rs 7,499 per person for triple sharing and Rs 8,999 for double sharing. The Shimla to Shimla option is Rs 1,000 less per person, since Shimla travellers join without the intercity bus leg. Your quote will confirm the stay allocation, applicable taxes and final payable amount.
How many days do I need?
The mountain itinerary from Shimla takes 3 days and 2 nights. The Delhi option spans 5 calendar days and 4 nights, including the two overnight bus journeys. Chandigarh's total duration depends on its connecting transport.
How difficult is the Yulla Kanda trek?
Expect a moderate trek with sustained uphill walking. This itinerary packs the main ascent and planned lake visit into one day, so it needs more stamina than a short sightseeing walk. First time trekkers should discuss their fitness and the schedule with Travel Coffee before booking.
How far is the trek?
The route from Yulla Khas to the lake is often described as approximately 12 km one way. The exact distance changes with the starting roadhead and route. It is not a 12 km round trip.
Which dates does this trek run?
This season runs on fixed weekend departures from late October to mid November 2026, after which the trail usually closes with early snow. Tell us your preferred weekend and starting point and we will confirm the current departure on enquiry.
Can I do the trek in late October or November?
Only if current local conditions support the planned route and camp stay. The lake visit falls on the Saturday of your chosen weekend, so trail access, weather and campsite operation need to be checked close to departure.
Where will we stay?
The planned stays are Krishna Homestay Yulla for one night and Yulla Kanda Kin Camps & Cafe for one night. The campsite uses alpine camps with shared washrooms. Room and tent allocation will be confirmed before payment.
Does double sharing guarantee a private tent or bathroom?
A private tent is confirmed only when the tent allocation is included in your written booking confirmation. Camp washrooms remain shared. Double sharing does not mean a private vehicle.
What meals are included?
Three breakfasts and two dinners are included. Lunches, snacks, beverages and meals on the intercity bus journeys are extra. Arrange a packed lunch before the main trekking day.
Can solo travellers join?
Solo travellers can enquire for a place in the group. Travel Coffee will confirm roommate matching and the sharing arrangement before payment. A solo booking does not automatically include a private room or tent.
Will someone carry my luggage?
Personal porter or mule assistance is not included. Carry your own overnight backpack to camp unless separate assistance has been arranged. For the outing beyond camp, take a light daypack.
Is a trek guide and safety equipment included?
Ask Travel Coffee for the confirmed trek leader, support arrangements, first aid provision and included equipment for this departure. These details should be recorded in your booking summary before payment.
Is the bonfire guaranteed?
The bonfire depends on campsite arrangements, local permission and weather. It may not take place if conditions do not allow it.
