Manali-Sissu-Kasol Itinerary 2026-27: Practical 5N/6D Winter Trip from Delhi

Most tourists get one thing wrong about this trip. A 5N/6D package from Delhi usually gives you three hotel nights, not five. You spend the other two nights on the road.
The second mistake is treating Sissu like a sure thing in winter. Snow, police barriers and local restrictions decide whether you get there. Your booking does not.
This Manali Sissu Kasol itinerary shows what each day really looks like, how to swap days when the weather turns, and what to do if the road beyond the tunnel shuts.
Quick Answer: What Is the Best Manali Sissu Kasol 5N/6D Itinerary from Delhi?
Take the overnight journey from Delhi to Manali. Spend one day on Manali local sightseeing and one day on a weather dependent run to Solang Valley, the Atal Tunnel and Sissu.
Then drive to Kasol, see Kasol and Manikaran Sahib, and take the overnight journey back to Delhi.
Most 5N/6D packages count both overnight journeys as nights. You usually get two Manali hotel nights, one Kasol hotel or camp night and two nights travelling.
Nobody can guarantee Sissu on a winter date. Snowfall, road clearance, police restrictions and local tourism restrictions decide access.
If you want stays and a vehicle sorted around this plan, start with our Manali tour packages.
What Does 5 Nights and 6 Days Actually Mean on This Route?

Read any package for this route slowly and you will spot the pattern. Here is how the five nights usually split.
Night 1 is the Delhi to Manali overnight journey. You sleep, or try to sleep, on the coach.
Night 2 is a Manali hotel. This night follows your local sightseeing day or your first Sissu attempt.
Night 3 is also a Manali hotel. The Sissu day works as a return trip, so you come back down to Manali to sleep.
Night 4 is a Kasol hotel or camp. Ask which one you get, because a riverside camp in winter feels very different from a heated room.
Night 5 is the overnight journey from the Kasol or Manikaran side back toward Delhi.
One current 5N/6D listing on this route spells this out plainly: two Manali hotel nights, one Kasol camp night and two overnight journeys. That is normal for the format. It is not a trick.
It turns into a problem only when you compare prices without checking. A quote with three hotel nights and a quote with four hotel nights describe two different trips.
In our experience planning Himachal trips, this one detail causes more disappointment than bad weather. People expect five hotel check ins and get three.
So before you compare any two quotes, count the hotel nights. Check whether Kasol means a camp or a room, and ask whether both overnight journeys sit inside the price.
Why We Recommend Manali First and Kasol Last in Winter

Manali works as the natural base for the high altitude Sissu day. The road to the tunnel climbs from Manali, so you sleep close to the climb and leave early.
Kasol lies back down the valley through Kullu and Bhuntar. That puts it on your way out, so it makes a sensible last Himachal stop before you head toward Delhi.
Flip the order and you add backtracking. You would drive up to Kasol, climb to Manali for Sissu, then drive back down the same road.
Treat Days 2 and 3 as swappable
Our team recommends one strategy for every winter booking on this route: keep Day 2 and Day 3 swappable.
If road and weather conditions look excellent right after you arrive, you can try Sissu first. The easier Manali local day then becomes your backup.
If authorities restrict Sissu access, do the Manali local day first. Then recheck conditions for the next morning.
The swap improves your odds. It does not promise you Sissu. Some winter weeks keep the higher road shut on both days, and you should accept that possibility before you book.
Day 1: Delhi to Manali Overnight

HPTDC runs Delhi to Manali Volvo or luxury coach services. It lists the coach journey at about 14 hours.
Official tourism sources put the road distance at roughly 530 to 570 km, depending on the source and the route they measure.
The timetable tells only half the story. Winter traffic, holiday congestion and mountain weather can push your arrival later than the schedule suggests.
We usually suggest you avoid booking anything rigid or prepaid for the morning you reach Manali. Skip the fixed activity slot and the tight lunch plan across town.
After a long night on the coach, you want a hot shower, breakfast and a slow start. Ask your hotel about early check in before you travel, so you know whether you need to wait.
Keep a warm layer, water, snacks and a charged phone in your hand bag, not in the luggage hold. You cannot reach the hold during the night.
If you plan to self drive from Delhi, be honest about how long this drive feels. Many people arrive too tired to enjoy Day 2.
Day 2: Manali Local Sightseeing or Your First Sissu Attempt

Hadimba Temple, Old Manali and Mall Road
Keep this day gentle. Your body just spent a night on a coach, and the real effort of the trip comes on the Sissu day.
Start at Hadimba Temple, the old wooden temple in the deodar forest above town. Mornings here feel calmer, with fewer people around the courtyard.
From there, head to Old Manali. The lanes hold small cafés, guesthouses and shops, and the pace drops the moment you leave the main road.
Finish on Mall Road in the evening for shopping, snacks and a walk. On holiday dates crowds pack the stretch, so do not expect a quiet stroll then.
We have not listed admission fees or fixed visiting hours here because they change. Ask your hotel or driver on the day.
If you want a ready plan with stays and a driver who knows these stops, our Manali tour packages cover this local day too.
The winter swap rule
Every morning in Manali, ask your driver one question: does the Sissu road look better today or tomorrow?
If the route is completely clear and your driver recommends using the weather window, flip Days 2 and 3. Do Sissu today and the temples tomorrow.
Local drivers who run this road through winter usually hear about ice and police controls quickly. We usually suggest trusting that local read over a forecast app.
Do not flip just because the sky looks blue over your hotel. Conditions near the tunnel and on the Lahaul side can differ from what you see in Manali town.
Day 3: Solang Valley, Atal Tunnel and Sissu

Manali to Solang Valley
Himachal Tourism lists Solang Valley at 13 km from Manali, so it makes a short first stop on the Sissu day.
In winter, operators run snow activities on days when snow cover and weather allow. Do not assume every activity runs every day. Wind, thin snow or local rules can stop them.
Agree on any activity price with the operator before you start. We have not quoted prices because they vary and change through the season.
If you want to know which activities suit beginners, read our guide to adventure activities in Manali before you go.
Solang Valley to Atal Tunnel
The Atal Tunnel runs 9.02 km under the mountains. Its south portal sits about 25 km from Manali.
The north portal opens near Teling and Sissu in Lahaul. You leave green Kullu behind and come out into a very different, more open valley.
The government built the tunnel to give Lahaul and Spiti all weather connectivity. That phrase confuses many travellers.
The approach roads on both sides still face snow, ice and clearing work. A heavy snowstorm can stop tourist movement even with the tunnel standing right there.
Do not mix up the Atal Tunnel with Rohtang Pass. Rohtang is the old high road over the top. The tunnel goes under the range on a different route.
Atal Tunnel to Sissu
Sissu sits about 40 km from Manali by road through the tunnel. It stands at about 3,120 m or 10,235 ft, well above Manali town.
This high section is the least predictable part of a winter Manali Sissu Kasol itinerary. The weather can change while you drive, and the open landscape feels much colder.
Safety warning: an April 2026 safety order restricted stopping, parking and gathering around vulnerable areas near the Atal Tunnel North Portal because of avalanche and falling debris risk.
The April 2026 safety order may be updated or replaced, so check the latest Lahaul and Spiti district administration notices before travelling.
Either way, do not ask your driver to pull over for photos right outside the north portal. Take your pictures at a safe, permitted stop in Sissu.
Here is a timing tip that changes the whole day. Check the road status the evening before and again at breakfast, then leave Manali early so you have daylight for the drive back.
For a Sissu focused plan with the right vehicle, see our Sissu tour packages.
The January and February warning for Sissu
This part catches many winter travellers off guard. In 2026, Sissu Panchayat suspended tourism activities from 20 January to 28 February for religious and cultural observances.
Separately, an administrative restriction stopped general vehicle movement toward Koksar and Sissu from 14 January 2026 until further orders. It exempted essential and emergency movement.
These are not one off events. Similar local tourism restrictions took place in previous winters too.
Here is the catch. As of early November 2026, the 2027 restriction dates have not been officially announced. Check the latest Sissu Panchayat and Lahaul and Spiti district administration notices before planning your January or February visit.
Do not assume the 2026 dates repeat in 2027. If your trip falls in these two months, plan it as a Manali and Kasol holiday, with Sissu as a bonus if the road and village allow.
Not sure whether your dates sit in a risky window? Send them to us and we will tell you what we know before you pay anyone.
What If Sissu Is Closed on Your Travel Day?

January 2026 showed how quickly this route can stop. Heavy snow completely disrupted Manali to Lahaul connectivity for a while.
After one snow spell, authorities first restored the road for one lane and 4x4 vehicles on a regulated basis. Ordinary tourist cars had to wait.
In February 2026, the Atal Tunnel route reopened after several days of heavy snow disruption, with only limited tourist movement.
So on your Sissu day you will face one of three situations. If you know them in advance, you will not waste the day.
Situation one: the full route is open
Solang, the tunnel and Sissu all welcome tourists that day. Follow the normal plan, keep an eye on the time, and start back while light and conditions stay good.
Situation two: only suitable vehicles can go ahead
Authorities sometimes allow only suitable local or 4x4 vehicles beyond a certain point. Follow the police instructions for that day and listen to your driver.
If your vehicle does not qualify, do not argue at the checkpoint. Police make these calls because of ice and snow ahead, not to spoil your holiday.
Situation three: the higher road is closed
Skip the most common Sissu day mistake: spending half the day at a barrier, hoping it will lift. That wait eats your whole day and often ends with you turning back anyway.
Decide your turnaround rule with your driver before you leave the hotel. If police give no clear reopening time, turn back.
Use Solang if it stays accessible. Otherwise, turn the day into more Manali sightseeing and a long, warm café session in Old Manali.
We cannot promise snow at Solang or anywhere else on your date. Treat whatever you get as part of the trip, and keep your second Manali day as the backup.
Day 4: Manali to Kasol via Kullu and Bhuntar

Manali to Kasol covers about 75 km. In normal conditions the drive takes about 2.5 to 3 hours by car.
Winter traffic and road conditions can stretch this. Plan for a longer drive and you will not feel rushed.
The route runs down through Kullu, then turns off at Bhuntar into the Parvati Valley toward Kasol.
Do not cram sightseeing into this transfer day. A tea stop on the way is fine, but the best use of Day 4 is arriving with energy left.
Use the second half of the day for Kasol market, café time, or a relaxed riverside walk where it feels safe and accessible. Stay away from slippery banks and the water’s edge after dark.
Kasol in winter feels quieter and colder than in summer. Some cafés and camps scale down for the season, so confirm your stay before you leave Manali.
Check our Kasol tour packages if you want a heated room or a camp sorted for this night.
Day 5: Kasol, Manikaran Sahib and Overnight Return to Delhi

A slow morning in Kasol
This is not the day for a major winter trek. A long overnight journey waits for you, and you do not want to start it soaked, sore or late.
Keep the morning flexible. Sleep in, eat breakfast near the river, and walk around the village at your own pace.
Manikaran Sahib
Manikaran sits about 4 km from Kasol, a short drive. Visit the Manikaran Sahib gurudwara and see the hot springs steaming around the complex.
Our one food recommendation for the whole trip: eat at the langar inside the Manikaran Sahib gurudwara complex. A simple, hot community meal after a cold morning beats most café menus in the valley.
Cover your head and remove your shoes before you enter, as you would at any gurudwara. Ask before you take photos inside.
We have not listed entry fees or visit timings because we will not give you numbers we cannot confirm.
Visit Manikaran in the morning, not in a last minute rush before your coach. A jam on the narrow valley road should not cost you your ride home.
The overnight journey to Delhi
This overnight road journey counts as the fifth night in the common 5N/6D format. Eat dinner before you board and keep a warm layer within reach.
Insider tip: you may find a 2026 Kullu order online that restricted heavy vehicles and Volvo buses on the Bhuntar to Manikaran road. That order ended on 31 August 2026, so it does not apply this winter.
Still, confirm with your operator exactly where your return coach or vehicle picks you up. Do not assume a large bus will come right into Kasol.
Day 6: Arrival in Delhi
You reach Delhi on Day 6, but nobody can promise an exact arrival time. Traffic and winter road conditions decide that.
Keep a buffer before any non refundable flight, train connection or important appointment. If changing your onward ticket costs a lot, book it for a comfortable gap or for the next day.
Is Sissu Open During Winter 2026 to 2027?

As of 5 November 2026, the official Lahaul and Spiti district road status page lists Manali to Keylong as OPEN.
That is today’s status, not a promise for your departure date. Winter changes this road fast.
Fresh snow can stop traffic. Black ice makes the road dangerous even on a sunny morning. Active snow clearing, avalanche risk and police controls can each halt tourist movement for a day or longer.
January 2026 showed this clearly. Heavy snow cut Manali to Lahaul connectivity, and movement came back in steps, first for suitable 4x4 vehicles on a regulated basis.
When you check the official page, read the date of the update, not just the word OPEN. An old OPEN tells you nothing about this morning.
Check it the day before your Sissu day and again that morning. The road status for your travel date can change with snowfall, ice, road clearance work and police restrictions.
Check the latest official Lahaul and Spiti road status the evening before your journey and again on the morning of departure.
Do You Need a Permit or E Pass for Sissu and Atal Tunnel?
This is the most confusing part of planning, so here is exactly what we know.
The official Rohtang permit portal issues a separate tourism permit for Rohtang Pass. That permit covers Rohtang. It does not describe travel through the Atal Tunnel.
The current official Himachal e-Aagman portal says applicants with vehicles entering Lahaul and Spiti have to apply for an E Pass. It describes E Permit and E Ticket categories depending on the route.
Some tourism websites still say ordinary Atal Tunnel or Sissu travel needs no permit. Those sites may only mean you need no Rohtang permit, which belongs to a different system.
We will not pick one answer and pretend the matter is settled.
Check the latest instructions on the official e-Aagman portal before travelling, as the pass requirement may depend on your vehicle, route and current entry rules. If a pass is required, complete the application and keep the confirmation on your phone.
If you hire a vehicle, ask your operator who applies and ask to see the confirmation before Sissu day. If you self drive, apply yourself and save a copy on your phone for offline use.
Is Rohtang Pass Part of This Winter Itinerary?

No. Do not pay extra to anyone who says it is.
Rohtang Pass is the old high road over the range. It is a different place and a different route from the Atal Tunnel.
Himachal Tourism says heavy snow normally closes Rohtang in late autumn or winter. It reopens after snow clearance.
So skip any add on that sells Rohtang as part of a December, January or February trip. You would pay for a plan the season itself blocks.
This itinerary centres on Solang Valley, the Atal Tunnel and Sissu when the road allows. That is the realistic winter version of this trip.
Which Winter Month Is Best for a Manali Sissu Kasol Trip?

November to early December
This window can give you a better chance of easier road movement than deep winter. It suits you if reaching Sissu matters more than seeing heavy snow.
Nobody can guarantee fresh snowfall on your particular date, though. You may see white peaks above dry roads.
Late December and New Year
Holiday dates bring the heaviest tourist demand. Package prices can rise, hotels fill early, and crowds pack Mall Road.
One current operator, for example, says departures from 19 December 2026 to 15 January 2027 carry revised pricing and availability.
Nobody can promise Christmas snow or New Year snow. Book this period for the holiday mood, not for a snowfall guarantee.
January and February
Stronger winter weather can bring more snow and also more disruption. The road beyond the tunnel shuts more often in this stretch of winter.
Remember the recurring Sissu cultural restrictions too. In 2026 they ran from 20 January to 28 February.
The exact Sissu tourism restriction dates for January and February 2027 have not yet been officially announced. Check the latest Sissu Panchayat notices before finalising your travel dates.
What we tell our travellers for every winter month is the same: book the hotels and the route, not the snow. Any snow you get on top is a bonus.
How Much Does a Manali Sissu Kasol Tour Package from Delhi Cost?

We are not quoting a Travel Coffee price here, because your final quote depends on your dates and choices. Instead, two real market examples show why prices vary so much.
Two current market examples
One current operator lists a 5N/6D style Delhi trip at ₹4,999 per person on quad sharing, ₹5,500 triple sharing and ₹5,999 twin sharing, including GST.
That rate holds only through 18 December 2026. The same operator says departures from 19 December 2026 to 15 January 2027 have revised pricing and availability.
Another regular 5N/6D listing shows ₹9,500 quad sharing, ₹10,000 triple sharing and ₹11,000 double sharing, with 5 percent GST extra.
Do not read these two as a universal ₹4,999 to ₹11,000 market rate. Their inclusions differ, so price alone tells you very little.
What changes your final quote
Your price depends on the hotel category, room sharing, private or group vehicle, meals, GST, heaters, activities, holiday dates and the exact road plan.
Heaters matter more than people expect. Some winter hotels charge for room heaters on top of the room rate, so ask before you confirm.
Money saving tip: room sharing makes a real difference. In the first example, quad sharing at ₹4,999 costs ₹1,000 less per person than twin sharing at ₹5,999.
If you travel as four friends, a quad room can save more than any discount code. Just confirm the room has space and enough bedding for four.
Scam warning: if someone quotes you the ₹4,999 rate for a Christmas or New Year departure, ask what changed. That example rate covers dates only up to 18 December 2026.
Also walk away from anyone who guarantees Sissu or snow for a January date. No honest operator can promise either.
If you want a quote that shows hotel nights, room type, vehicle and every extra in plain words, send us your dates and group size.
What Should You Pack for a Manali Sissu Kasol Winter Trip?

Pack for the Sissu day, not for Manali town. The higher Sissu excursion feels colder and more exposed than walking around Manali.
Start with thermal base layers, top and bottom. They do most of the work and take little space.
Add a properly warm jacket, gloves, a woollen cap and warm socks. Carry a spare pair, because wet feet in snow ruin a day fast.
Wear footwear with good grip. Packed snow and ice near viewpoints turn ordinary sneakers into a hazard.
Snow reflects sunlight strongly, so carry sunglasses and sunscreen even on cold days. Cold, dry air cracks skin and lips, so pack moisturiser as well.
Bring your personal medicines, a power bank for long road days, and a reusable water bottle. People drink less in the cold and feel worse for it.
Keep some cash too. Small shops on the way may not take cards, and your phone network can drop on mountain stretches.
We have not given temperature forecasts because we will not guess numbers for your future date. Check a forecast a few days before you leave.
Who Is This 5N/6D Manali Sissu Kasol Itinerary Best For?

This plan suits couples, friends and first time Himachal travellers. You get Manali’s winter scenery plus a short Parvati Valley stay without a very long holiday.
It also works if your leave is limited. You fit Manali, a Sissu attempt and Kasol into six calendar days.
Be honest with yourself about one thing: this is an active itinerary. Two of your five nights happen on the road, and that tires most people more than they expect.
For families with very young children, older travellers or anyone who wants a relaxed trip, we usually suggest adding another destination night. That works far better than squeezing more sightseeing into the same six days.
Can You Extend the Trip?
Yes. The easiest way to stretch this Manali Sissu Kasol itinerary is one more night in Manali or one more night in Kasol.
An extra Manali night gives you a real second chance at Sissu if snow closes the road on your planned day.
An extra Kasol night lets you slow down in the Parvati Valley instead of rushing from Manikaran to the coach.
Do not add Chandratal, Kunzum Pass or other high seasonal routes as winter extensions. Those roads belong to the summer season.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many days are enough for Manali, Sissu and Kasol?
Six days in the 5N/6D format work if you accept two overnight journeys. One extra Manali or Kasol night makes the trip more comfortable.
Is 5N/6D enough for Manali Sissu Kasol from Delhi?
Yes, for a first trip. You get two Manali hotel nights, one Kasol night and two nights on the road, so expect an active pace.
Is Sissu open in December 2026?
As of 5 November 2026, the official road page lists Manali to Keylong as OPEN. Your exact December date depends on snowfall and police restrictions.
Is Sissu open for tourists in January or February 2027?
Nobody has confirmed the 2027 dates yet. In 2026, Sissu Panchayat suspended tourism from 20 January to 28 February. Check for fresh official notices before travelling.
Is the Atal Tunnel open in winter?
The 9.02 km tunnel provides all-weather connectivity to Lahaul. However, snowfall on the approach roads can still restrict tourist movement.
Do I need an e pass or permit for Sissu?
The e-Aagman portal says vehicles entering Lahaul and Spiti need an e-pass, though some sources differ. Check the official portal before travelling.
Is Rohtang Pass open during this winter itinerary?
Plan without Rohtang Pass, as heavy snow usually closes it during winter. This itinerary uses the Atal Tunnel route instead.
How far is Sissu from Manali?
Sissu is around 40 km from Manali via the Atal Tunnel. It sits at approximately 3,120 metres (10,235 feet).
How far is Kasol from Manali?
Kasol is around 75 km from Manali. The drive usually takes 2.5 to 3 hours by car, but winter traffic can increase the journey time.
Is snowfall guaranteed on this Manali Kasol Sissu winter trip?
No. Fresh snowfall depends on the weather, so treat it as a bonus rather than a guaranteed part of your trip.
Is a 4x4 compulsory for Sissu in winter?
Not always. After heavy snowfall, authorities may allow only suitable 4x4 vehicles on certain routes. Check the rule on your travel date.
What happens if Sissu is closed because of snow?
Do not wait at the barrier all day. Visit Solang if accessible or switch to Manali sightseeing and use your flexible day.
