Kashmir Itinerary 6 Days 2026: Complete 5 Nights 6 Days Trip Plan

Kashmir19 minutes read
Kashmir itinerary 6 days

The hard part of a Kashmir itinerary 6 days long is not choosing places. You already know the names: Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg.

The hard part is fitting them into 5 nights without spending your whole holiday inside a car.

Here is what most first time visitors get wrong. They count six sightseeing days. Your flights eat a big part of Day 1 and Day 6, so you usually get four full days and two partial ones.

This plan shows you two sensible ways to use those days. It also shows you exactly what to drop when the trip starts feeling tight.

Quick Answer: How Should You Spend 6 Days in Kashmir?

A practical Kashmir itinerary 6 days long uses Srinagar as your main base. You visit Gulmarg as a separate day trip and give Pahalgam at least one overnight.

Add Sonamarg only when the season, road conditions and your flight timings support it.

Want a slower holiday? Skip Sonamarg and spend that extra time in Pahalgam or Srinagar. You can see both styles built into our Kashmir tour packages.

Is 5 Nights 6 Days Enough for Kashmir?

Is 5 Nights 6 Days Enough for Kashmir?

Yes, for the classic core of Kashmir. But only if you stop treating six calendar days as six sightseeing days.

If your flight lands in the afternoon, Day 1 becomes a Dal Lake evening and nothing more. If you fly out before lunch on Day 6, you get breakfast and an airport run.

The four destination route

This version covers Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg. It suits travellers who land early, leave late and don't mind early starts.

It feels full. You get more places, but fewer slow mornings.

The three destination route

This version covers Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam and drops Sonamarg. It suits families, senior travellers, winter trips and anyone who likes a relaxed pace.

You see one place less. In return, you actually sit by the river in Pahalgam instead of watching it through a car window.

Neither version wins for everyone. In our experience planning Kashmir routes, the right choice depends on your flight times and your energy, not on how many names you tick off.

Kashmir 5 Nights 6 Days Itinerary at a Glance

Kashmir 5 Nights 6 Days Itinerary at a Glance

Recommended classic circuit

On Day 1, you land in Srinagar, check in and spend a light evening around Dal Lake. On Day 2, you do a Gulmarg day trip and come back to your Srinagar hotel.

On Day 3, you drive from Srinagar to Pahalgam and sleep there. On Day 4, you explore Pahalgam properly, then return to Srinagar or stay on, depending on your hotel plan.

On Day 5, you take a Sonamarg day trip from Srinagar. On Day 6, you fit in flexible Srinagar sightseeing around your departure.

Why this shape? Because you sleep in Srinagar for most nights and move bags only for Pahalgam. You avoid packing and unpacking every evening, which quietly drains more energy than any drive.

A less rushed alternative

Remove Sonamarg and the whole trip breathes. You can give Pahalgam a second night and see its valleys across two easy days.

Or you can keep that day in Srinagar for gardens, the old city and a slow lake morning. This version works especially well for families, senior travellers and winter travel, when higher roads get less predictable.

Day 1: Arrive in Srinagar, Dal Lake and an Easy First Evening

Day 1: Arrive in Srinagar, Dal Lake and an Easy First Evening

Your arrival time decides everything today. A morning landing gives you most of the day. An evening landing gives you dinner and sleep, and that is fine.

Do not plan Gulmarg, Pahalgam or Sonamarg on arrival day. You will reach tired, lose the light and wreck the next morning too.

What to do on your first evening

Check in, rest for an hour, then head to Dal Lake. A shikara ride is optional but pleasant, especially in the evening.

Walk a stretch of the Boulevard afterwards. It runs along the lake and gives you an easy first feel of Srinagar without any planning.

For your first chai moment, order a cup of kahwa from a tea stall on the Boulevard facing Dal Lake Saffron, spice and almonds in a small cup make a far better welcome than any hotel lobby tea.

Do you really need a houseboat night?

Many travellers book one houseboat night and four hotel nights. That means an extra check in, an extra check out and your bags going on and off a boat.

A houseboat is a lovely experience, but it is optional. If your group has heavy luggage, kids or senior members, one Srinagar hotel for all your Srinagar nights keeps things simple.

This is our main money and energy saving tip for Srinagar. Skip the one night houseboat switch unless the houseboat itself is the thing you came for.

If you do want a houseboat, make it your whole Srinagar stay rather than a single night in the middle.

Not sure which fits your group? You can compare setups in our Kashmir packages for different travel styles, or ask us directly.

Day 2: Srinagar to Gulmarg Day Trip

Day 2: Srinagar to Gulmarg Day Trip

In a 6 day Kashmir trip plan, Gulmarg normally works best as a day trip from Srinagar. You leave in the morning, spend the day in the meadows or on the Gondola, and return to the same hotel.

The drive from Srinagar to Gulmarg takes a few hours each way. Leave early so you reach before the day gets busy and still have light for the return.

How to plan the Gulmarg Gondola

The Gulmarg Gondola runs in two separate ticketed stages. Phase 1 goes from Gulmarg to Kongdoori. Phase 2 continues from Kongdoori towards the Apharwat area.

Here is an insider tip most guides skip. Treat the two phases as two separate decisions. Weather and operational restrictions can stop the Gondola, and a higher stage can shut while a lower one keeps running.

So don't build your whole Gulmarg day around reaching the top. Plan a good day at Kongdoori and treat Apharwat as a bonus when conditions allow.

On price, we will be straight with you. Current websites quote different Gondola fares for 2026, and they don't agree. We won't pick one and call it fact.

Check the official Jammu & Kashmir Cable Car Corporation ticket portal right before you book. That page shows the real price for your date.

Safety warning: buy Gondola tickets only through the official portal. Don't pay a stranger at the parking area who promises "confirmed tickets" or a shortcut past the queue.

Should you stay overnight in Gulmarg?

A Gulmarg night makes sense if snow, skiing or a very early Gondola start matters most to you. It also suits people who want a slow resort style stay with nothing else planned.

But in a 5 night trip, a Gulmarg night costs you. It takes a night away from Srinagar or Pahalgam and adds another hotel change.

For most first time visitors, the day trip gives you the Gulmarg experience without that trade. If you want a snow focused trip with more mountain time, look at our popular tours across Kashmir and India for longer formats.

Day 3: Srinagar to Pahalgam and Overnight in Pahalgam

Day 3: Srinagar to Pahalgam and Overnight in Pahalgam

Pahalgam deserves a night. People who squeeze it into a return day trip spend most of the day on the road and see the valleys in a hurry.

When you sleep there, you wake up already in the valley. That single change makes Day 4 feel completely different.

Stops on the way

You can stop at Pampore or Awantipora on the drive if time allows. Treat them as optional. Don't promise yourself both if you left Srinagar late.

The drive itself takes a good part of the day. Plan your departure after breakfast, not at noon.

Keep the first evening slow

Don't start the Pahalgam sightseeing circuit the moment you arrive. Check in, walk down towards the Lidder river and let the evening stay light.

You will enjoy Aru and Betaab far more tomorrow with a full morning in hand.

Day 4: Explore Pahalgam Properly

Day 4: Explore Pahalgam Properly

This is the day most rushed itineraries destroy. Give it room.

Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari

Aru Valley, Betaab Valley and Chandanwari form the usual core sightseeing circuit around Pahalgam. Most travellers cover these on their main Pahalgam day.

The Directorate of Tourism Kashmir published updated rates for tourism services at Pahalgam on 29 March 2026. We haven't verified the individual fares from that notification for this article.

So check local sightseeing transport arrangements and rates against the latest official tariff before you travel. Don't trust a fare you read on an old blog.

Here is our second insider tip. Ask your operator in writing whether your main vehicle does the Pahalgam circuit or whether you need a separate local taxi. First time visitors often discover this only on the day, at the taxi stand.

Should you add Baisaran?

Baisaran is a separate outing. You don't need to force it onto the same day as Aru, Betaab and Chandanwari.

If you pack all four into one afternoon, you will spend each stop looking at your watch. That is how a beautiful valley turns into a checklist.

With one Pahalgam night, pick the circuit that interests you most and enjoy it properly. With two nights, you can split the circuit and Baisaran across two relaxed days.

Our team recommends deciding this before you leave home, not at the taxi stand. If you want help working out which Pahalgam plan fits your dates, send us a message.

Getting back to Srinagar

In the classic circuit, you return to Srinagar in the evening after sightseeing, or stay a second night if your plan allows. A late evening drive after a full sightseeing day feels long, so keep that in mind if you have kids or seniors.

Day 5: Sonamarg Day Trip from Srinagar

Day 5: Sonamarg Day Trip from Srinagar

Sonamarg is the flexible fourth destination in this Kashmir 5 nights 6 days itinerary. It adds a different landscape, but it also adds another long drive day.

If the trip already feels rushed, or road and weather conditions look poor, Sonamarg is the logical piece to reconsider. Dropping it hurts far less than cutting Pahalgam down to a few hurried hours.

J&K Traffic Police advises travellers to confirm the current road status before any mountain journey, because weather and road conditions can stop movement. Check the night before and again in the morning.

We can't promise that Sonamarg or any specific road will open on your travel date. Nobody honest can.

The drive from Srinagar to Sonamarg takes a few hours each way. Start early so you have proper time there and still return before dark.

What about Thajiwas Glacier and Zero Point?

Thajiwas Glacier and Zero Point each need separate planning. Access, local transport arrangements and seasonal conditions change through the year.

Current local taxi prices, opening dates, distances and travel times for both need checking before you go. Ask your operator whether your main vehicle goes there or whether you need a local arrangement.

Our honest view: if you have only one Sonamarg day, pick one of these rather than chasing both.

Day 6: Srinagar Sightseeing and Departure

Day 6: Srinagar Sightseeing and Departure

Your flight time decides this day. Nothing else.

With an afternoon or evening flight, you have time for the Mughal gardens, Hazratbal, a bit of shopping or a slow morning at Dal Lake. Pick one or two, not all four.

With an early flight, skip sightseeing completely. Have breakfast, reach the airport calmly and leave Kashmir without a panic run.

Here is a timing tip that changes the experience. If you skipped the evening shikara on Day 1, take it early on Day 6 instead. Morning on Dal Lake feels quiet in a way the evening crowd never does.

Keeping this last block loose also gives your whole trip breathing room. If weather pushes a day, Day 6 absorbs some of the shock.

Where Should You Stay for 5 Nights?

You have three sensible stay patterns. Each one fits a different kind of traveller.

Srinagar base with one Pahalgam night

This is the most practical pattern for the classic circuit. You spend four nights in Srinagar and one in Pahalgam.

You change hotels only twice. That matters more than most people expect.

Two nights in Pahalgam for a calmer trip

Here you split three nights in Srinagar and two in Pahalgam. You give up Sonamarg, but Pahalgam stops feeling like a quick stopover.

This is the version we tell our travellers with kids and senior parents to look at first.

A Gulmarg overnight

A Gulmarg night makes sense mainly when you want snow, skiing or extra time there. It takes a night from somewhere else, so think about what you lose.

Where the houseboat fits

Treat a houseboat as an experience, not a requirement. If you want it, use it as your full Srinagar stay. If it means one night of extra shifting, leave it out.

Can You Really Include Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg Without Rushing?

Can You Really Include Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg Without Rushing?

Sometimes, yes. It depends on five things lining up.

You need to arrive reasonably early on Day 1. You need a departure time that leaves you something on Day 6.

You need efficient transport, normal road and weather conditions, and a group that enjoys early starts. When all five line up, the four destination circuit feels full but fair.

When it stops working

Late flights break it. Winter disruption breaks it. Young children, senior travellers, anyone with mobility limits, and people who love slow mornings all find it tiring.

Remember what this route really asks of you. Day 2, Day 3, Day 4 and Day 5 each involve a long drive. Four road days in a row wear down even energetic travellers.

Our practical planning preference

If you need to cut something, reconsider Sonamarg before you squeeze Pahalgam. That is not an absolute rule. It is simply what we tell our travellers after planning many versions of this route.

Pahalgam needs a night and a proper day to make sense. Sonamarg works as a single day, which also makes it the easiest single day to remove.

A trip with three places done well usually feels better than four places done in a rush.

How Should This 6 Day Kashmir Itinerary Change by Season?

How Should This 6 Day Kashmir Itinerary Change by Season?

Spring

Spring brings the gardens of Srinagar into focus, which makes your Day 6 sightseeing more rewarding. Mountain conditions still change during this time.

Verify higher altitude access before you commit to Gondola Phase 2, Sonamarg or the upper Pahalgam points.

Summer

Summer is a common time for the full classic circuit. Demand runs high, and traffic around the popular spots builds up.

Book hotels and your main vehicle early. Leave early each morning so the drives feel easier.

Monsoon and late summer

Rain can arrive, and road conditions can change quickly. Keep Sonamarg as your flexible day and check road status every morning.

Don't lock yourself into a plan that depends on every road staying perfect.

Autumn

Autumn brings cooler conditions and daylight that shrinks gradually. Shorter days mean earlier returns from Gulmarg and Pahalgam.

Plan your long drives so you finish before dark.

Winter

Winter often turns Gulmarg into the main attraction for snow lovers. Sonamarg and the higher excursions become conditional on current access.

Nobody can promise snow on your dates or guarantee that a road or attraction will open. The slower three destination version usually suits winter trips better.

What Does a 6 Day Kashmir Trip Cost in 2026?

What Does a 6 Day Kashmir Trip Cost in 2026?

There is no single honest number. Package prices for a 5N/6D Kashmir trip vary a lot based on the provider, your group size, hotel class and what they include.

Instead of chasing one headline figure, understand the cost buckets.

The real cost buckets

Your biggest costs usually come from accommodation and your main vehicle for the trip. Then come local sightseeing vehicles where required, such as in Pahalgam or around Sonamarg.

After that, add the Gondola, the shikara, meals, attraction fees and your flights. These small items add up faster than people expect.

How to compare quotes

Two packages with the same headline price can include very different things. One may include local Pahalgam taxis and Gondola tickets. The other may exclude both.

Compare itemised inclusions line by line, not the final number. That one habit saves more money than any discount.

If you want an itemised quote you can actually compare, get in touch with the Travel Coffee team and we will break down every line.

Local Transport Rules First Time Visitors Often Miss

Booking one private vehicle for your Kashmir trip does not automatically cover every local sightseeing vehicle or activity. This surprises a lot of first time visitors.

In some places, local arrangements handle the sightseeing circuit instead of your main vehicle. Pahalgam and the Sonamarg side points are where people most often discover this.

The Directorate of Tourism Kashmir issued fresh tourism service rate notifications for both Pahalgam and Gulmarg on 29 March 2026. We have not verified the individual rates for this article.

Scam warning: if someone quotes a local taxi, pony or service rate, ask to see the official rate list from that 29 March 2026 notification. A friendly driver quoting a round number from memory is not an official tariff.

Before you pay anyone, ask your operator two simple questions. What exactly does my package include? What will I pay for separately on the ground?

7 Mistakes That Make a 6 Day Kashmir Trip Feel Rushed

7 Mistakes That Make a 6 Day Kashmir Trip Feel Rushed

Sleeping in all four places

Trying to sleep in Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg within five nights means packing bags almost every morning. You lose hours to check ins and check outs.

Planning a far destination on arrival day

Heading to Gulmarg or Pahalgam straight from the airport sounds efficient. In practice, you arrive tired, late and grumpy, and you ruin the next morning too.

Treating departure day as a full day

Day 6 is a partial day at best. Plan it around your flight, not the other way round.

Leaving Gondola planning too late

The Gondola depends on weather and operations, and prices need checking on the official portal. Sort this before Gulmarg day, not at the parking lot.

Rushing every Pahalgam attraction in a few hours

Aru, Betaab, Chandanwari and Baisaran don't fit comfortably into one short afternoon. Pick what matters to you and give it time.

Using old prices from outdated blogs

Tourism service rates changed with the 29 March 2026 notifications. Old taxi or activity prices online can mislead you into arguments on the ground.

Building in no flexibility

Weather and roads change in Kashmir mountains. If every hour of every day has a plan, one disruption collapses the whole trip. Keep Sonamarg and Day 6 flexible.

Who Is This 6 Day Kashmir Itinerary Best For?

Who Is This 6 Day Kashmir Itinerary Best For?

Couples

The full classic circuit works well for couples who enjoy active days. You get four very different landscapes in one trip.

If you want romance over rush, drop Sonamarg and give Pahalgam two nights instead.

Families with children

Reduce hotel changes first. A Srinagar base plus two Pahalgam nights keeps kids far calmer than a new room every night.

The slower Pahalgam version usually works better than chasing Sonamarg with tired children in the car.

Senior travellers

Focus on fewer hotel moves, shorter days and careful high altitude planning. Skip Gondola Phase 2 unless everyone feels comfortable and conditions look good.

Early starts are fine. Long evening drives after full sightseeing days are not.

First time Kashmir visitors

Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam form the core of a first trip. Sonamarg is your flexible fourth, added only when time and conditions allow.

If you see the core three properly, you will leave with a real feel for the valley and a reason to come back.

Should You Book the Kashmir Trip Yourself or Take a Package?

Both work. Your choice depends on how much coordination you want to handle.

A package can take care of your airport transfer, hotels, routing and local coordination. That helps a lot on a tight 6 day Kashmir trip, where one wrong booking eats half a day.

Booking yourself gives you full control and can suit experienced travellers who enjoy the planning. Just expect to handle local transport questions on the ground.

What to check in writing before you pay

Whichever way you book, get these details in writing. Ask for hotel names and room category, meals, and your primary transport.

Then confirm local sightseeing transport, Gondola tickets, shikara, parking, attraction fees, airport transfer and the full list of exclusions. If a quote stays vague on any of these, ask again.

You can see how we structure this in our 5N/6D Kashmir package options. If you are still comparing destinations, our most popular tours give you a quick side by side view.

A good Kashmir itinerary 6 days long is not about seeing everything. It is about seeing the right things without feeling chased. If you want a second opinion on your draft plan, write to our team and we will tell you honestly what to keep and what to drop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 5 nights 6 days enough for Kashmir?

Yes, for Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam, with Sonamarg as an optional fourth. Remember that flights take part of Day 1 and Day 6.

Can I cover Srinagar, Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg in 6 days?

Yes, if you arrive early, leave late, and roads and weather stay normal. With late flights, kids or winter travel, drop Sonamarg.

How many nights should I stay in Srinagar?

Usually three or four, with Srinagar as your main base. This cuts hotel changes and makes Gulmarg and Sonamarg easy day trips.

Should I spend one or two nights in Pahalgam?

One night works for the classic circuit. Two nights suit families, seniors and anyone who wants a slower, calmer trip.

Is Gulmarg better as a day trip or overnight stay?

A day trip suits most 5N/6D plans. Stay overnight only if snow, skiing or extra Gulmarg time matters most to you.

Can Sonamarg be visited as a day trip from Srinagar?

Yes, it usually works as a Srinagar day trip. Check road status the night before and on the morning of travel.

Which place should I skip if my Kashmir itinerary becomes too rushed?

We usually suggest reconsidering Sonamarg first. Cutting Pahalgam short hurts the trip far more.

How much does a Kashmir trip for 6 days cost?

It varies with group size, hotel class, season and inclusions. Compare itemised quotes rather than headline prices.

Do I need separate local taxis in Pahalgam?

Often, yes, for the local sightseeing circuit. Confirm with your operator and check the official 29 March 2026 rates.

When should I book Gulmarg Gondola tickets?

Check the official J&K Cable Car Corporation portal before Gulmarg day. Book there directly and confirm the current price.

Is a houseboat stay worth adding to a 5N/6D itinerary?

It is a lovely optional experience. Use it for your whole Srinagar stay rather than as a single night that forces an extra move.

How does this itinerary change in winter?

Gulmarg becomes the snow focus, and Sonamarg depends on current access. The slower three destination version usually works best.
