This area suits you if you care more about easy road access, daily convenience and possible value than about waking up inside Udaipur's heritage core.
The trade off is clear. You give up much of the instant Old City and lakefront feel.
You will also lean more heavily on local transport to reach the main sights, so factor that into your daily plan and your budget.
We are not going to tell you Hiran Magri is safer than the rest of Udaipur, because that is not a claim we can stand behind. Treat it as a sensible, well connected base, nothing more and nothing less.
Maharana Pratap Airport sits at Dabok. The Airports Authority of India places it about 22 km from Udaipur city centre.
That distance is why airport side accommodation makes the most sense for very early departures, very late arrivals, short transit stops or certain business trips.
For a normal sightseeing holiday, it is usually the wrong base. You would spend real time driving into the city and back every day.
