Your winter Spiti journey begins on Thursday evening from Delhi. Meet the group at the pickup point, board the overnight Volvo, and settle in for the ride towards Shimla. Unlike the shorter 9-day version, you do not start a long mountain drive as soon as you arrive. Instead, you get a full day to rest in Shimla first.

  • A Tempo Traveller, shared SUV or MUV for all the mountain driving and sightseeing, based on the group size and road conditions
  • 7 nights accommodation plus 2 nights on the overnight Volvo. Stays: Shimla (1N), Sangla (2N), Tabo (1N), Kaza (2N), and Kalpa (1N)
  • Warm, winter-ready stays chosen for comfort in the cold, on double, triple or quad sharing as per your booking
  • 7 breakfasts (Day 3 to Day 9) and 7 dinners (Day 2 to Day 8). This is the MAP meal plan
  • All sightseeing as per the itinerary. Each stop depends on time, daylight, weather, snow, and road conditions on the day
  • A trip captain for qualifying larger batches. Smaller batches are run by an experienced local driver with Travel Coffee coordination and support on the ground
  • Experienced local drivers who know the Kinnaur and Spiti roads and are used to winter conditions
  • Help with permits, including the inner line permit where needed, and local formalities
  • An emergency oxygen cylinder in the vehicle during the mountain journey (you pay only if you use it)

  • Any cost from a medical emergency, hospitalisation, medicines, oxygen use, or emergency evacuation and rescue. This matters even more in winter Spiti because it is remote, snowbound, and help can be far
  • A deep drive into Pin Valley towards Mud Village. Day 6 covers a taste of the nearer Pin Valley only
  • Local 4x4 charges if fresh snow or ice means a smaller 4x4 is needed to reach the high villages. This cost is shared among the travellers using the vehicle and is told to you beforehand
  • A backup vehicle unless you add it to your booking. It can be arranged on request for an extra cost, based on availability
  • Any extra cost from snow, bad weather, landslides, road blocks, road closures, or local rules, including any extra stay, food, or travel this causes

Know Before You Go
Winter Spiti does not follow a fixed script. Fresh snowfall can affect the roads to Chitkul, Gue, Pin Valley and the high villages around Kaza. Our local team checks conditions during the trip and adjusts the sequence to keep it safe
The Shimla day is intentionally relaxed. There is no fixed full-day Shimla tour, and the night is there to let you rest before entering Kinnaur. If you want, you can explore Mall Road, The Ridge or Christ Church on your own, depending on your hotel and time
The Shimla night is for rest and comfort, not high-altitude acclimatisation. The route still gains altitude gradually through Kinnaur before reaching Spiti
Early check-in in Shimla depends on room availability. You may reach before the standard check-in time, and if the room is not ready your luggage can be stored at the property until then
Two nights in Sangla are deliberate. We do not use Nako as a night halt. Sangla gives a more comfortable winter stay and a full day for Rakcham, Chitkul and the Baspa valley, while Nako is covered by day on the drive
Chitkul is part of the plan whenever the road is safely accessible. After heavy snow, if the last stretch beyond Rakcham is blocked, we explore the best safely accessible parts of the Baspa valley instead
Gue is a short detour off the main route. We visit whenever the approach road is clear and there is daylight. If it is icy, snowbound, or would mean late-night driving, we carry on to Tabo
Pin Valley is kept flexible. We give you a taste of it whenever the road allows, but we do not promise Mud Village or a deep drive, as that can make the Tabo, Dhankar and Kaza day too rushed
Two nights in Kaza give you one full day for the high villages. When the roads are clear, Langza, Hikkim, Komik, Key, Kibber and Chicham all fit into a well-planned day. In winter the challenge is usually the road, not the distance
After fresh snow, the main road may stay open while the smaller high-village roads get hard for a Tempo Traveller. Where it is safe and practical, a local 4x4 may be arranged. That cost is not in the package, is shared by the travellers using it, and is told to you beforehand
A 4x4 does not make every road safe. If a road is officially closed or judged unsafe by the local authorities, drivers, or our team, we do not attempt it, even in a 4x4. Safety comes before any sightseeing point
Some days have long mountain drives, mainly Sangla to Tabo, Kaza to Kalpa, and Kalpa to Shimla. Start times may move earlier for winter daylight and road conditions, so please be ready on time
Winter stays are comfortable but practical. Shimla and Sangla have better infrastructure, while Tabo and Kaza are remote and high. Expect clean rooms, warm bedding, and local hospitality rather than city-style luxury. In extreme cold, power, water and heating can be patchy, hot water may come in buckets or at fixed hours, and room heaters may be charged separately
Pack seriously for the cold. Thermals, a heavy jacket, gloves, a woollen cap, warm socks, good winter shoes, sunglasses, sunscreen, and personal medicines are essential, not optional
Spiti is high up, with Kaza above 3,600 metres. Drink water, eat light, avoid alcohol, do not overexert, and tell your trip captain early if you feel unwell. The oxygen cylinder is for emergencies and does not replace a doctor
Phone network is weak or absent after Kinnaur, and ATMs in Reckong Peo can be unreliable. Carry enough cash for the whole trip, and keep some buffer after the trip in case snow or road clearance causes a delay near the Delhi arrival
